STRONGLY prefer one that doesn't require filters or distilled water.

I'd like one not made in China but I guess this is fantasy.

When Tommy was small he had asthma (they call it Reactive Airway Disease) and we found that the el-cheapo elephant shaped humidifier we found at target worked better than the one our neighbor had let us borrow.

It wasn’t just a spinning wheel in the machine flinging water mist into the room (which made the floor wet). The Elephant one had some kind of white rocklike cylinder the water went thru and it came out as a true fog, not wetting the floor or creating mold.

Just checked, it is a crane brand.

You don’t have to get the elephant one

I also use a Crane
https://www.target.com/p/crane...f59dbf5&gclsrc=3p.ds

Works great so far, leaves no wet droplets anywhere, just pour in some water and turn on, even shuts off when the water runs too low.

I've been using it for the past few weeks ever since having a series of nose bleeds that would not stop, that got me sent to the hospital to cauterize in order to stop it.

These leave white dust/crystals around where it is sitting.

We used these when the kiddos were little little little.

I would rather not have a filter either but I need to humidify the entire upstairs so pretty much the only option without individual units in each room.
We now use a large filter type to humidify the entire upstairs.
Filter last the winter which is the only time we use it so it’s not a huge deal.
I throw some of the humidifier chemical stuff in once a month and have no mold issues.

Same here. Been pretty good. We rinse, drain and air dry every morning. Vinegar the bottom about once/month.

Do you happen to have a forced air HVAC system? We had an AprilAire whole-home humidifier installed and it’s been great, it’s plumbed into water so nothing to do but change a $15 water panel once a season. They aren’t really all the much cost-wise.

Haven't noticed anything yet. It's right next to me on my computer desk. I've only used Costco bottled water in it. Maybe it's calcium/hard water?

I know you don't want a filter/wick but having tried a dozen different humidifiers, I've liked them the best. The wick lasts a long time on these large humidifiers. I use an Aircare in my guitar studio and I'm happy with it and it's in your budget. It is loud even on the lowest fan setting though.

This isn't the humidifier you want, but it's the humidifier you need.

AA 700m whole house humidifier.

Takes under 2hrs to install, never needs to be refilled. Want to pet your cat/dog in the winter without shocking them get this (or similar). I kicked myself after installing it for not doing it years earlier. You spend many hours outside of the bedroom, why not be comfortable in your living room too?

I have 8 humidifiers in a 2400 sq ft house going 24/7 in arid AZ, seven of which are the same brand. Each one covers 430 ft sq area. It's this model LEVOIT Humidifiers Easy Top Fill, Essential Oil, Quiet, OasisMist4.5L

I know you said you'd rather not have filters but I clean my humidifiers every three months and the filters just take a rinsing. I have replacement filters but it looks like these can go on for the life of the machine.

I know you also don't want to use distilled water and I can understand - trouble of going to the store, $1.30 a gallon, and they had a shortage last year. However, straight tap water that is hard like where I am, produces white dust particles in the air and settles on your furniture. Additionally, you'll have to clean the humidifier more often and crusts develops on the parts that has to be removed with vinegar and scrubbing.

But instead of distilled water, I use ZeroWater filters which filters out Total Dissolved Solids down to zero PPM. Project Farm on YouTube did a test and verified ZeroWater's claim. They also provide you with a TDS meter. Best Water Filter?. My tap water ranges from 125 to 150 PPM and I started using one filter which was good for 120 liters where I have to change filters when output reaches 6 PPM. The TDS meter would start showing 1 PPM at 70 liters.
Based on the last calculations I made when I was tracking throughput per filter, I'm paying 30 cents per gallon so it's a savings over buying distilled water.

I have an "elaborate" set up for the water just for my convenience in maintaining the five 4-liter jars filled. I go through an average of 20 liters every other day in filling up the 8 humidifiers.

Rey HRH curious do you not have whole house heat/ac, is that why you run 7 units, seems a whole house humidifier on a water feed with filters built in would eliminate the need for all that process.

Unless it's something that is needed for sleep I'd opt for a whole house solution as well.

If you want Humidity here, just open a window, so we don't run them, have considered a de-humidifyer, and would run whole house here as well.

It's from ignorance. Never knew a whole house humidifier was such a thing. We started in CA with just a humidifier in the bedroom per my wife's request. I don't remember why.

We got to AZ and moved into an apartment. We were feeling cold in the house with 77 degrees Fahrenheit. That's when I learned how lack of humidity evaporates your body moisture and you dehydrate. I think that contributed to me getting kidney stones for the first time ever. So we bought two for the small 900 sq ft apartment.

Moved into this house and I just carried on with what I know. I don't know how much it would cost to retrofit the house and the maintenance. I already have the set up and it does give me something to do plus I look at the 5 bottles as emergency water supply also that gets rotated quite frequently.

I've used a few of these and have had good results with them. You're supposed to use at least filtered water but I usually don't. I have very hard water and I haven't noticed issues with white flakes/powder around it. They make essentially no noise too.

I posted a link for the unit I have. A few hundred for the unit; a few hundred to install (if you can't do it yourself); and $20 a year for a replacement water panel. I'd say well under a grand. With hard water the annual costs could double or triple to $40 or $60 a year for additional water panels.

I hated filling one, I can't imagine the annoyance of filling 8 especially with the filtration needs of your water supply.

I used www.lasko.com for many years.
I'd buy them again.

There is a lot of great information on the www.

About filtered and un filtered humidifiers.

Also numerous good points about distilled water and tank additives.

A great way to affect your health is to inhale . . . .stuff.

A great way to introduce stuff into your body may also be a detriment.

Ist very important that you are very aware about what and how much you ingest into your only pair of lungs.

Especially if those lungs aren't brand new.

Take care .
