Looking to buy a new Chevy Sliverado 1500 PU but in looking on internet a lot of them have 4 cyl motors.
Just wondering if anybody has any driving experience with one.
I plan on transferring my snowplow to my new truck. I only plow my own driveway and maybe help a couple of older neighbors when need.
Motors rated at 310 hp.

I don't recall the specifics, but my dad is recently out of the car business & advised against anything with the 2.7 turbo I4 [Silverado & Colorado IIRC]

He was GM service for a long time. Most recently shop foreman/dispatch/mgr.

Conditioned with - I do not know about long term longevity and I do not own the truck, it’s a company issue work truck and I have not used it for towing.
I’ve driven one daily for 15k miles. The turbo 4 has plenty of power and the transmission / engine combo works very well. I have zero complaints about it. Quiet, responsive and it gets 17 mpg hauling around a moderately loaded, tall, work style truck cap.
I’m a V8 guy but I would seriously consider owning one in a basic truck.

I had a 2023 Colorado Trail Boss and can say that the engine made great power and was more than capable of getting up to speed quickly. I know it's not exactly the info you're looking for, but I never felt like the engine ever struggled.

My above post wasn't necessarily about the engine lacking for power, I think it had to do with the design of some part of it. I'll have to try to remember to ask my dad what it was.

I have the same experience. I drove one for 70K miles with no trouble except for a couple of trips to the dealer for an emissions valve that kept failing. Once we got over that issue, it was good. We didn't pull or haul heavy loads with them and mostly highway miles. Plenty of power. Mileage average over the time I drove it was 27 MPG again mostly highway miles though.

They offer the Silverado with a 4-cylinder now? Clearly I've lived too long .

A buddy at work has had the 4 cylinder Silverado for almost a year now and he loves it. He doesn't tow anything with it, uses it for stuff like hauling mulch, bikes, kayaks for the kids etc.

I have the v8 but friends with the 4 have said power is surprising they just like the higher rpm’s. Most complaints I have heard of concerning the platform generally concern the transmissions.

It'll be a few more years before we really know about the 4 cylinders reliability. The engine does have plenty of power though. Just a few years ago everyone would be raving about how awesome a V8 would be with that kind of tongue. If you can gamble with the reliability, it would probably meet all your needs.

I did get a report from a friend that he knows somebody personally that hauled about 13,000 lbs of heavy equipment from somewhere in Indiana to SE Michigan with no problems.
I guess if it can haul that weight it could push a little snow.

Checking the specs it seems to have plenty of power, in fact more tq than the 5.3 V8.

I do not know this to be true but it could be that the cylinder size on these four cylinders are 50% to 100% LARGER than the four cylinders we all grew up knowing about that went into the small cars and mini trucks of years past.

Just saying - Think about it - A Semi-Truck has six cylinders and so do many Bull Dozers.

I have had zero complaints from the owners of the 4 banger. The 4cyl is the only engine you can get in the Custom trim. You can get the 4cyl or the 5.3 V8 in the WT trim. The 5.3 gets better fuel economy than the 4 cyl. I stock plenty of WT's when they are available, not sure what kind of amenities you want but the WT is a nice package.

Just my uninformed opinion but ....I worry about durability when one pushes such a small engine to get an abnormally high horsepower/torque from it.

My imperfect analogy is that no one expects durability from a race engine.....the harder one pushes any machine, the more likely something is going to break.

I intially read that it was designed from the start as a truck engine, not a remake of any existing 4 cylinder. A 2.7 liter is a pretty big 4 cylinder. Time will tell how it holds up under towing and hauling duty though.

I plow my own driveway and a neighbor or 2 when they ask for help.

Just got rid of my 1989 K2500 with a 350 gasoline engine, 4.11 gears and an 8' Western Pro Plow, conventional mount.

I upgraded to a 2004 Chevy 2500HD with the Duramax and a Meyer MDII quick mount 7'6" plow. I didn't really want the diesel, but it was my neighbors and he took good care of it, and I needed an upgrade from the 89.

I will say the Duramax plows the snow much better than the 350 gasser.

I'd be weary of a 4cyl turbo trying to plow snow. Snowplowing is all low end. Turbos are generally higher RPM engines, but I have no experience with the 4 cyl turbo you speak of. Just food for thought.
