M - I believe Manufacturers already do this. It's in the owners manual. They also include a lock/cable in every box as well.

The advertising is IRRELEVANT because the perp didn't buy the rifle. His mom did, and he killed her.

Another issue: It wasn't Remington. The case is Soto Vs Bushmaster - a subsidiary. Not "Remington," in it's former incorporation, which was sold off.

Further, there was no proof of fault made. It never got to court. https://www.ammoland.com/2022/...aster/#axzz7LBYbdIOk

In what alternate universe does "man card" = murdering children?

how the rifle was marketed

I must have missed the "just the rifle for your dopey kid to steal and murder children with" ads they were running.

Don't have a link but I did read that the decision was almost entirely based on how the weapon was marketed. Apparently, for example, they ran one ad that had a picture of the weapon with some phrase about getting your "man card" if you buy one. I'm sure that other manufacturers will look at the decision and adjust their marketing accordingly.

Seems like you should have a link for that.

In what universe does a “man card” ad for a gun get you to the crime that was committed with the weapon?

Any weapon?

------------------------------------------------

The civil court case in Connecticut focused on how the firearm used by the Newtown shooter — a Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle — was marketed, alleging it targeted younger, at-risk males in marketing and product placement in violent video games. In one of Remington’s ads, it features the rifle against a plain backdrop and the phrase: “Consider Your Man Card Reissued.”

As part of the settlement, Remington, which made the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle used in the massacre, also agreed to allow the families to release numerous documents they obtained during the lawsuit including ones showing how it marketed the weapon, the families said.

If you google "Remington Man Card Ad" you can find numerous sources reporting about the ad. Here are two:

--------------------------------------------

In what universe does a “man card” ad for a gun get you to the crime that was committed with the weapon?

Not in any universe that I live in. In case there is any doubt, I oppose the settlement. My post was to provide some information about the legal basis for the suit, not to justify it.

UPDATE - The ny daily news link is now dead. But the politico link is still good. Like I said if you google it there are plenty of other links to the "man card ad,"

The mother legelly purcased the rifle with a legelly required gun lock.

There are EXACTLY two people responsible for Sandy Hook.

The asshole who did it, Adam Lanza, and his idiot mother, who despite all the strange, weird, mentally ill bullshit her kid did, STILL made it easy for him to get the gun from her.

She SHOULD have known her kid had serious issues. She SHOULD have gotten him the help he needed. She SHOULD have done EVERYTHING in her power to mitigate his ability to be at threat including either eliminating his access to any weapons, involuntarily committing him, forcing treatment upon him through legal means, or even giving up her own firearms if she was unwilling or unsuccessful at the previous.

But she is dead, killed by her asshole, mentally ill kid. The asshole is dead, by his own hand after brutally murdering a bunch of children that should have never happened if we actually practiced personal responsibility.

Since neither of the two idiots responsible are alive, or worth any amount of money... guess who gets to foot the bill? With how absurd the legal system has become... each and every one of us, the legal gun owners.

And that is EXACTLY what some of them want.

Sadly, now that we have gotten down to the real facts, the over 2200 who viewed the thread aren't updated to it.

It was a suit against Bushmaster. It was settled by insurance, not a court decision, and the gun was purchased by a woman, now dead, and used by her son, a known mentally unfit person who then used it to kill children and who took his own life.

Keep that in mind when it comes up, as those are generally not discussed. What will be is "Remington had to pay for it's ads soliciting minors" which is on its face, lies. No, Remington isn't paying, the ads were not adjudicated the cause, and the weapon didn't sell to a minor.

PS the OP isn't to blame, the media is, and that is they way they are playing the narrative. Lies.
