So I am in Kansas City for a week long training class. Don't know how much down time I will have but what are the things I need t see if I get time? I'm staying out in The Legends area (whatever that is). Any gun shops that are a must see? Restaurant's? Thanks, Verne

You're in Kansas near a (wow...) big shopping center: https://www.visitkc.com/busine...17hwem1z252ma5dt8ljw My daughter lives in KC MO, she's taken us to some great BBQ but I'm drawing a blank at names. I have not visited any gun shops, the WWI Museum is neat: https://www.theworldwar.org/ It may not affect you, but they're gotten way too much rain the past few days.

WWI Museum is a good one. Union Station, legendary for the bullet impacts on the outside from the gangster days. Art Museum is a good one. Savoy Grill, downtown KC MO, excellent restaurant. Not inexpensive but great. Oklahoma Joe's is good for BBQ. Bryant's is the legendary one. Power and Light District has ton's of bars and restaurants. Visit Tucker Murray at Jimmy Johns. Or, he might be doing the rounds on TV already.

Jack Stack barbecue, absolutely. Prepare to wait.... "And gentlemen in England now abed, shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us upon Saint Crispin's Day"

Finding the sweet spot |
My advice is to skip Jack Stack and Joes. If you want BBQ, try Q39, on 39th street. It's a few blocks east of KU Medical Center and my wife, daughter and I think it's the best in town. There's also a place on Kansas avenue not far from KU called Jarocho's. It's a little dingy looking hole in the wall place on the outside, but the food is amazing. Graham and Dunn on the Plaza is good, so is Cooper's Hawk, and Capital Grill (also on the Plaza). There's a place called Webster House that's right next to Kemper Arena, that's a great place. If you are in the southern part of KC, Jasper's has great Italian food, and J Gilbert's has a great steak, (their scallops are good too). As others have said: The WWI museum. You'll be staying within walking distance of a Cabela's with an amazing Mule Deer display. My favorite area gun shop is the Olathe Gun Shop, which is about a 20 minute drive. KC has a lot of great BBQ places. Jack Stacks and Arthur Bryants are usually tossed-out, but I prefer the little hole-in-the-wall spots that are usually skipped by the tourists. The Woodyard is one of my favorites.

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest |
Do yourself a favor and don't go to any BBQ besides Oklahoma Joe's. I lived in Overland Park for two years and nothing else there or anywhere comes close. I've also lived in NC + TX and nothing in those states compares. Flame On but there's a reason OK Joe's has been named nationally as one of the places you should eat in before one dies. If you like Mediterranean food, My Big Fat Greek restaurant in Olathe (about a mile or so from the gunshop) is also top notch. Have fun!

If you like airplanes, these are both at the Wheeler Downtown Airport in KCMO. IIRC, the TWA Museum has inside displays but no aircraft. http://www.airlinehistory.org/ http://twamuseumat10richardsroad.org/index.htm

its called kansas city joes now unfortunately KC is really spread out. Lots of shopping in the Legends area but the best food will be 20+ mins away. What man is a man that does not make the world better. -Balian of Ibelin Only boring people get bored. - Ruth Burke

Good gun shop (and indoor range) is frontier justice in Lees Summit. Probably a good 45 minute drive from the legends. Everything there is over priced. But I guess they have to pay for the 10 million dollar facility some how.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone but I didn't get a rental car this trip. So looks like I am on a short leash. I made it to the hotel earlier and walked over to the mall and ate at Yard House. Not bad but defently not great. Thanks, Verne

Yaa ur hosed in mostlly chain restaurant hell. Get the french dip at yardhouse. If you like cajun/creole food check out the jazz. Cabelas is usually serving different game meats but its by far from a nice restaurant. Granite city is doable for a chain too. The casino which probably has a shuttle from your hotel has a decent steak house and buffet. Let me settle this. The is NO BBQ in KC that is bad. All is good, some is better.

I swear I had something for this |
You've still got Arthur Bryant's up at Legends. It's hard to get BBQ any better. Savoy Grill burnt down over a year ago and will not reopen. For some great steak, Lydia's Italian is amazing along with Jack Stack. Also worth checking out is Porto Du Sol/Em Chamas/Fogo De Chao Brazilian Steakhouses. Endless amounts of perfectly exquisite steak.
