Outside of the guns I have a pin collection that started when I got my first bike. It branched out from moto related to travel and other hobbies. The bike vest got so heavy I took most of them off and will be putting them in display cases.

I really don't think I collect anything. But I'll explain why I'm posting. Many would say I collect a few things. But I disagree.

Many would say I collect watches because I have maybe a dozen. 3 or 4 really "good" ones, and some (in comparison) less expensive ones. But it's not a grouping of one brand, or type (like divers, or GMTs). It's just a mix that I fancy at the moment and I wear them all at least one a year. Eventually I sell/flip them. So I have a lot of them, but it's not a collection.

I also furnish and decorate my house with a lot of mid-century furniture and pottery and decor. That's "perhaps" more of a collection. We occasionally go to estate sales and try to get there first for the cool stuff from that period. But again, it's all used or employed to the task of decorating a home. Art, a chair, an end table -- my son told his friend "My parents collect dead people's end tables"! lol . I used to collect mid-century console HiFis. As I had them all over the place and it was getting ridiculous, there's no way for me to ssay I was doing anything but collecting them. They were pretty, and for the most part useless. And BIG. Pens, are a MUCH better choice from a storage perspective for a collection!

I do this, too. I have a magnet for every state I've visited (49 to date) as well as every country. I used to put them on my refrigerator, but I ran out of room.

I also collect pocket knives.

I'm more a hoarder than a collector - although there are things I hoard intentionally.

I've collected custom knives for 30 years, slowed down with age. My collection paid for itself through buying and selling, I think at this point it's around 40-50 knives.

 
I collect scales and balances, old and new. I have a triple beam balance that came out of a 1800's school science lab, with the original milk glass. I have quite a few spring scales. The oldest is a railway platform scale that was used to weigh baggage. It weighs up to 150 lbs. At the other end, I have a new Pesola spring scale (Pesolas are made in Switzerland) that weighs up to only 100 grams. The Pesola brand makes many different sizes in different weight ranges, and I have a "few". My favorite, though, is the old portable balance that belonged to my Grandfather. He used it for weighing gold and trading in it during the Depression. The weights are marked Pwt (or pennyweight, also abbreviated Dwt). One Pwt = 1/20 Troy ounce. The largest weight in that set is 20 Pwt, or 1 Troy ounce. You can see the official stamp of calibration.

we have a hutch with just about every thing available in her favorite pattern,
and use some leftovers as serving plates and bowls too,

with the exception of a few pieces, most of our serving bowls are vintage

I attempted to do the US Military rifle/handgun thing and have most,, but not all,

small enfield collection as well,

and a closet full of comics from the late 80's early 90's, F4, Batman, and a majority of indy stuff (Dark Horse, Image, and few other indy labeled stuff)

I am no longer into them, but I used to collect US coins, with a specific focus on the silver dollars. Any numismatists on here? Imagine owning and holding history in your hands, at the time the founding fathers were roaming the USA, such as the 1776 Continental "Dollar", the 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar. And, so many others. Amazing experience.

Now, it's just the boring guns.

Over the years I have started and stopped several "collections". Ultimately, what has "cooled" my collecting was the passing of my Dad. I realize, while going through his stuff, that most of what I "collected" would be possibly thrown out upon my demise. Now I just keep those items that I enjoy having but really don't collect any more.

I did collect a lot of vintage scuba gear, still have a few unique pieces that do have some value. although, my wife would argue I still collect dive gear, only difference now is that its current and I use it!

My Dad collected shot glasses from historic sites, states, cities, national parks, casinos, manufacturers, etc. Had about 500 or so when passes away. I gave the entire collection to my cousin who always admired them.

I collect records (vinyl) and titles (vehicles).

I collect Abel fly reels, rods and anything else they made. I collect auto knives and ballpoint pens.

bad habits, fortunately not the kind with a nun inside! There may be more interesting hobbies, but the possibilities are endless, and I'm not getting rid of them anyway.

Barrel aged beers and meads are my two main vices these days.
