Road trip this day to Stuart VA and on VA58 to Fancy-Gap (overlook)which is spectacular then on to Meadows of Dan. It should be noted that we saw more individuals at Fancy Gap over look then you would see in the Fall of the year. People are simply not staying in place. Even Meadows of Dan adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway was crowed with motorcyclist adventures. We went over to Squirrel Spur-Gap thus back to North Carolina. We saw more people out and about in a long time. The Stay At Home order thing is now simply being ignored!

Stuart, VA is a cool little town. I stopped in there back in January. It's named after Major General J.E.B. Stuart, CSA. Downtown there's a small museum next to the library. It's worth checking out. Tons of local history but also lots civil war relics, weapons and equipment. It also had great displays of WW1 and WW2 of uniforms and equipment donated by locals. For the Indian artifact lovers they had amazing arrowhead displays and artifacts. When I went two Vietnam vets were "working." They were volunteer curators. Just a great small town place.

you should go back when this beerflu stuff is over,

meadows of the dan is the home of Chateau Morrisette,
a good winery with a mighty fine restaurant on the grounds,

Villa Appalachia (good Italian style wines) is just down the road,

we stayed at a now closed B&B just up in Woolwine years ago, and spent a day hanging out in Floyd

We just finished a road trip, from Florida to Utah. In a couple of weeks we will get back to our home in CA.

The motels along the way were mostly empty. Freeway traffic down a bit, except for big rigs. It was a bit uncomfortable to be going 75 mph on a two lane highway, with an oversized big rig to the right, a big rig in front, and another big rig trying to kiss the rear bumper.

And I hate the orange construction barrels. Smile

Since November I've been driving the stretch of 58 from Hillsville to Danville twice a week for work. Beautiful drive thru the Meadows of Dan over the mountain and thru Stuart. I pulled over one morning in November and took this pic from Lover's Leap overlook.

This post also reminded me of a story about Meadows of Dan. I posted it in another thread so as not to hijack your thread here.

If you happen to see a historical marker in Meadows of Dan referencing a WWII bomber crash, here is the rest of the story:
