Our bedroom faces East and over the past 20 years the sun horribly faded our handmade solid cherry furniture. I spent the last two months stripping, sanding, staining and refinishing each piece. It came out nice but clearly I'd like to never do that again, lol.

I'd like to apply a UV blocking tint to the windows. You guys have any thoughts? There's a lot to choose from an Amazon.

Do you want clear window film or tinted? 3M Crystaline if you want clear. One of the other good 3M tints if you want it darkened. LLumar makes good window tint as well.

Look into having tinted security film installed. It's about $2K to do a whole house, in my area. UV protective, tinted or clear, and stops someone from being able to throw a brick through your window and walk in. It's not bombproof, but they will have to work harder.

"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. -Mencken

double paned? i’ve had multiple people tell me that tinting double paned accelerates leaks and may lead to cracks. i’d love to install crystalline on south and west facing windows.

Huper Optik makes a wide variety of films and different shades all the way to clear. Huper uses nano ceramic technology for their films. This blocks all the different kinds of Uv, etc, but it has great heat rejection as well.
They have been making glass film, long before they got into automotive films. I had my Mercedes tinted with their film and it was an incredible difference.

It can, but in my experience (had it done at 2 separate houses) it has not. What one installer told me was that it is more dependent on the angle at which the sun is hitting the window, and he did not recommend true south facing windows. If you have later afternoon sun that when low hits the window at less than a 60 degree angle, it is better for the window.

I have applied this to several windows in my current house (myself), and it is not overly difficult.

I have used this with good effect in our loft area where there is a television, and it has noticeable effect on the room, however the room has late afternoon sun of about 45 degrees.

Having spent 10-15% of my life (between 25 and now) in a car driving to clients, I have every car window tinted within 15 days, and have never had any regrets.

FWIW, I was looking at tinting my windows also, but was talked into using solar screens instead. I am very happy with the solar screens.

Thanks. What are solar screens? An internet search was confusing.
