steve495Help with trailer tilt lever
Figured I would reach out to the SIG Forum mind trust.
I've got an older Cox utility trailer I'm in the process of rebuilding. I'm looking to replace a trailer tilt latch.
I found
this one, but it does not have the longer bar for the u-bolt that goes around the trailer tongue. That would work, but I'd have to take it to get welded up to fit.
Any ideas? This is what I'm working with now and trying to replace.

SigSACIt appears that Cox might still be in business. I found a site for sales of their trailers. Might be worth a try contacting them.

Thanks, but that's a different company. Cox Trailers was actually located in Grifton, NC. I sold their trailers - including a lot of these utility trailers - at my dad's marine dealership for years. They went out of business in 1990.

trapper189The one you linked from etrailer looks like the exact same thing as the one on your trailer except, as you noted, for the bar welded to the one on your trailer. The bar and the bracket welded to it look to be in good condition.
Can you buy the etrailer one and swap the other parts to your bracket and bar?
Or, through bolt the new bracket to the trailer tongue with a 1/4" spacer and get rid of the u-bolt.
Or, weld the new one with a 1/4 spacer to the tongue of the trailer and get rid of any bolts.

steve495I'm leading towards reusing the frame part of it and replacing the spring and lever as you suggested. U-bolt should be an easy find.
Thank you.

I had to replace the U bolt on my trailer when I refurbished it. Menards and Lowes both had a wide selection, but I would take the old one along to confirm the size.

a1abdjSame latch is roughly half the price directly from the manufacturer, and US made.
A local welding shop could easily add the piece shown in your photo unless you were happy simply making the swap.
