I see them around, but they're not as much of a problem as they were when I lived down in Illinois. Goose land mines everywhere.

The business park I used to work in contracted with a guy that used border collies to chase them off. That was always entertaining to watch. Those dogs are so smart and fast.

I did come close to whacking one when I was riding the motorcycle, when a big ol' gander decided to try to chase me off as I was puttering on by. Nearly clipped him with a foot peg.

Enter the laser goose-harasser. It is essentially a $3,500 flashlight that projects a powerful beam of red light designed to terrify geese at a range of 400 yards. Geese have never seen anything like it.

I still think a punt gun, and the powder charge and shot would be cheaper over the long run. The Federal Migratory Game Bird stuff needs revisiting. Because it's actually more outdated than the constitution and a whole lot less thought out.

Wild animal populations running wildly out of control from natural checks because of man need to be balanced by man in fair trade for use of the same land we occupy. We don't extinct them, and in return, they don't totally shit all over everything we own or tread upon. Seems fair to me.

I had never heard of a punt gun. Here is a short video that explains:

Yep, that's what I'm talking about. From back in the era of where the butcher's shops got stocked not just by farmers, but hunters as well. Those guns could clear a whole flock on a lake. Not all that complicated, basically just a John-Henry sized blunderbuss on a boat.

Why can't it be specks that are outrageously overpopulating us? We could solve the world hunger problem, hunting would be fun, and everyone would enjoy a tasty reward.

As it is, we just get to be annoyed by the Canadas around here....
