I'm not usually a big fan of eggnog. It's "ok," but, I generally find the taste... I dunno... a bit cloying? So what generally happens is we buy eggnog at Christmastime, I drink one glass, and the rest goes to waste. Yesterday, at Costco, while my wife was waiting in checkout line (which, naturally, had been so quiet you could shoot a cannon off ten minutes earlier), I decided to take one last lap around the store (I'm doing a 10k per day step challenge) and maybe hit the pizza roll samples again. Came across a new sample stand that hadn't been there before. Turned out to be organic eggnog made with real milk and eggs. I grabbed a cup, expecting the worst and mentioning "I'm not usually a fan." "Wow! This is great!" I said. Woman at the pizza roll stand said "Yeah. Tastes like liquid vanilla ice cream, doesn't it?" Thought about it. "Yeah, it does." So I bought a pair of bottles. Enjoying a small glass just now. I don't think any of this eggnog will go to waste ETA: I updated the title to more-accurately reflect this is not a Costco-/Kirkland-branded product. This is what it looks like: This message has been edited. Last edited by: ensigmatic, "America is at that awkward stage. It IS essentially melted (never frozen) vanilla ice cream. My grandmother made her fabulous eggnog pretty much starting with the same vanilla custard base you use to make homemade ice cream. Then she chilled it, added lots of booze and finished by folding in whipped cream right before serving.

Thanks for the heads up, probably grab some there. I used to enjoy eggnogg, but haven't really had any in recent years. My son decided he likes it a lot and he's just finished up his second quart this season and has been ploying me to have some with him and I haven't. Vanilla cream? I could get down with that. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

Make homemade eggnog that doesn't have the fake liquor and vanilla flavors added and then add your own booze to taste. It will blow your mind. Proverbs 28:1

I updated the OP for clarity. Or not. I've tried pretty much every kind of eggnog I've ever come across, incl. more than one homemade eggnog. Tastes vary, but, this eggnog is far-and-away the best eggnog I've ever tasted in my life. The only eggnog I've ever tasted where I had to restrain myself from pouring another glass. I'm still resisting the urge to pour myself another "America is at that awkward stage. Gloom, despair and agony on me. |
Maybe add some more brandy, not much of a nail biter.

I’ll have to try it! Most grocery store eggnog has too much nutmeg. Borden’s used to have a variety that was excellent but I can no longer fid it. The only Borden’s variety I can find is overloaded with nutmeg. I suspect they reduced the cream content or some other ingredient and increased the nutmeg load to save money.

Nail biter my word, understatement. I need more brandy in my eggnog. That largest in NFL history come back. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Most eggnogs I find to be too syrupy, overly sweet, you finish a glass and you need to chase it with some hot water to thin it all out. The Costco I go to carries Straus eggnog , which uses top shelf milk and egg, isn't too sweet and makes for a good base with any alcohol. Costco is very good at working with local suppliers: meat, dairy, produce, bakeries.... In every region, there's usually 1-2 locations that are designated for higher-end/better-quality food stuffs and alcohol (same also for electronics, clothing, home goods), where the 'nicer' seasonal items can be found. Luckily I have 4 Costco's within 30-mins drive, one of them is the 'gourmet Costco' which has a huge alcohol and food selection They carry Straus products, have a large cheese selection, more eggs, butter and coffee along with with more meats and prepared items. Seasonal things like cookies/candies and gift giving alcohol sets they've got a bigger assortment than most locations.

Will have to look for the eggnog options at our local Costco. I will say, if you like 'melted vanilla ice cream', then you should see if you can find C.F. Burger Colonial Style Custard Nog.
