I do some driving for the local GMC dealer. When I went in this morning, they had one of the new Escalade V's. The window sticker was $161,000. In addition, the dealer was going to mark it up an additional $35,000. There are reports Chicago dealers are marking them up $100,000!!

A very nice vehicle, but I don't care for black vehicles and the price seems a bit high.

My first car was a 1971 Eldorado, so I am a Caddy fan.

Too rich for my blood.

For $200k, there are so many other options.

For a pimped-out Chevy Tahoe? Roll Eyes Even if I had the money, I wouldn't spend it on that. For that matter, neither would a lot of wealthy people. Not spending their money on such foolishness is how they keep their money.

Went to order a mustang dark horse since no Shelby’s this year. Saw it and sat in one at Le Mans.

First dealer wanted a 5 k premium and 2k non refundable deposit. I walked and got it for msrp with a refundable deposit. You can find places that are realistic. Fools are parted with their money easily.

Always had a soft spot for these AMG wagons; even fully spec'd much closer to 1 than 2; definitely a sleeper

Just for perspective, a vehicle like this is targeted for the nouveau riche; rap stars, newly signed sports figures, flamboyant spenders like trust fund babies and lottery winners. Anyone unconcerned with outrageous spending and the limits of earning ability. Guys like I am would instantly consider options and whether we want others to know our financial position.

I haven’t bought a new vehicle in 22 years and don’t plan to unless I need to, but anytime I have I have NEVER paid the sticker price or any above it. I was always able to get them to come down. I am sure crap has changed with post-COVID supply issues and dealers used to now getting what they want.

These vehicle prices are absolutely absurd. Even outside of these nonsensical dealer markups.
I saw a 2wd Sequoia for $81k no markups. Out of control.
But people are buying them left and right so the manufacturers/dealers will continue.

Went over to a GMC dealer to look at a used Yukon about 18 mo ago. The salesman drove us over to the remote lot in a 2022 Escalade.

Me want.

I'd never buy a new one but a 2-3yo with 60k miles for $50k would be enticing.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
