Thank you Very little |
The front doors on the Casa de HRK are in need of changing of the glass, at least thats what i'm told. Apparently with rule changes over the past 20 years, handicap accessibility, hurricane, wind force, climate change etc door sizes etc have changed. Our Glass area is 20x80, and we're looking to put in decorative/specialty glass inserts, lucky enough the plain glass we have and the frame around it is removable so we can change it, Seems there are a few companies that make 20 x 80, ThermaTru being one, costs run anywhere from $950 to $1500 a panel and we need two. I'll have to hire a person to install, or DIY. Anyone done this themselves, how hard is it, or have any sources for this type of glass insert. Two local glass companies can order the inserts but they don't install, so it's a commodity of sorts. I didn't find it at Amazon either.

Hire a pro, and don't go cheap. I just resolved an issue with Lowes concerning a 12x8 foot (about) 3 panel, two door patio thing. They screwed it up badly. End result was a full refund, and I had Pella make and install a proper door. It's fantastic-and it should be. It cost more than my first 4 cars combined.

The ONLY brand of hurricane impact windows to go with is PGT. Standard thickness is 5/16". It's not much more to go with 7/16" glass and makes a huge difference in noise and heat reduction. PGT will make any size you need

Actually looking at Thermatru Door glass inserts, we're not changing the whole door unit, and should be able to replace the door inserts. Basically you remove the flush plugs that cover screws, take out the screws and remove the inside frame trim/cover, glass, then the outside trim. Reverse to install the new glass, which would be a nicer unit, with a level 7 obscure rating moving from thin contractor grade glass to a nicer looking insert panel
