ArtieSDaylight Wasting Time is Upon Us.
I hate the switch in this direction. I like, and use, the light in the evening.

P220 SmudgeSo grateful to finally live in a state that doesn’t play this game. The change in either direction used to mess with me for weeks.

I'm the opposite, I'm an early riser and like having some daylight at 6:30am

Early riser has nothing to do with it. I like to be working before the sun comes up, otherwise I feel like I’ve already wasted part of the day. I also like light later so I can get things done after work.
Might be different if I worked outside, but I don’t, so there you have it.

fritzWith the exception of a few weeks at the height of summer, I both get up and go to bed when it's dark. So from that standpoint, time changes are no big deal. Shortening or lengthening my day by an hour a couple of times of year is no big deal -- no different than travelling between time zones.
As modern humans we have a crap load of artificial lights -- home, office, car, streets, stores, restaurants, parking lots, etc. I see a greater challenge with seasonal daylight changes for folks with outdoor activities that are not easily lit with artificial lights -- such as agriculture, some sports, some recreation. And the farther one lives from the equator, the greater the seasonal changes in sunlit hours.
For example, winter is the season to snow ski, but the visibility can just suck after 3pm in January. Golf is great at 7pm in July, however not so much at 7pm in September/October. Anyone who works a ranch or farm understands that as the sun hits the horizon, many duties come to an end.
I worked at the family ranch both days this weekend. It takes me just under an hour to commute there from home. It's chainsaw in the woods season -- I have to work with daylight hours, regardless of what a clock shows. I saw no reason to set my clocks back Saturday night, only to advance my wake alarm hour for Sunday. So I'm changing clocks tonight, and I'll deal with daylight hours on my next ranch trip.
Bottom line -- I could care less about time changes. Adapt and overcome -- there are larger issues in life.

I’m with oddball. I’m up and exercising by 5AM, and like some sunlight for my 2.5 mile early morning walk.
Early to bed, early to rise, etc.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Ditch Daylight Saving Time (fast time) and restore permanent Standard Time (natural time), for the health, mood, safety, education, and economy of schoolchildren, commuters, farmers, construction workers, and more!
Permanent Standard Time alone can end clock change quickly, safely, and fairly, as most people wish. It can do so without delaying sunrise, for well-being and prosperity.
...
Its benefits to circadian health would improve immunity, longevity, mood, alertness, and performance in school, sports, and work. It can prevent traffic deaths, lower crime, and reduce chronic illnesses. Standard Time is the honest and natural clock, set to the sun (also known for this reason as God’s time), which balances morning and evening light fairly.
Some might consider permanent DST, but history and science show this is worse than biannual clock change. Permanent DST would delay sunrise past 8am (when most school/work begins) more than three months in most states, and later even than 8:45am for a week in most states. It increased deaths and injuries when last attempted in the US.
...
Moving clocks to DST acutely deprives sleep; leaving clocks on DST chronically deprives sleep. DST’s delayed sunrise significantly increases accidents, disease, and healthcare costs. It significantly decreases learning, productivity, and earnings. Let those who prefer DST wake themselves early.

architectNever forget, it is not a "time change" (how could time possibly change?), but a "time zone" change. Much as when you drive across country you encounter different time zones periodically.
Time zones were created so that every jurisdiction didn't have to keep its own time, usually set by the exact time of noon at some central location (when the shadow of a vertical object stops getting shorter, and starts getting longer). Surprisingly, this method can be accurate to within seconds, and is also used at sea to determine latitude.
And who sets clocks manually these days? Abount 90% of the clocks in my home are electronic, and synced over a network connection or similar, or they have the time zone change built in to some internal algorithm. Even the clock in my car simply requires a toggle of the zone designation rather than resetting the hour. Do you still have to manually wind these clocks regularly?

1967GoatI started a new side-business after I finish my normal job in the evenings. It involves backing a trailer into driveways. This is my first year. Not sure what's I'm gonna do in a few weeks when it's completely dark at 5:00.
Yes, I did install flood lights on my trailer, but it's still a major PITA backing up a trailer in the dark.

patwI agree with liking the light being later. The past couple days have been fun with my dogs, with them thinking it is later than it is in the morning and they whine to get up at six when the sun comes up.

bettysnephewI guess the only way to make most everyone happy is to add an hour of light in the morning and another in the evening. We'll have to have top men work on that. Top men.
