I am looking for pants for harder range wear and general outdoor activities during the summer.

Been looking at some REI models and some Arcteryx and Kuhl models which seem to fit the bill, but I worry that the waistbands on both are not quite thick enough, and both seem to have a belt loop that is just off the 3 o'clock position, which I find aggravating for holster placement. I plan on heading back to the store with a full kit and trying them to be sure. I'm going to try to get to a 5-11 dealer soon so see what they offer.

Any suggestions for me? Breathable, flexible, sturdy belt loops. Convertible pants are OK, provided they're rugged enough.

5.11's Taclite or Stryke pants make for great quality, rugged, lightweight summer range pants.

These types of pants are expensive, so I don't have a lot to judge by.

I did some looking a few weeks ago. Prices were stupid. I finally settled on some Eddie Bauer Guide Pro pants. I looked at probably 5+ different brands/styles in person before I settled on these. The biggest thing I kept running into were the other brands/styles were too damn long for my 28 inch inseam, and had zippered legs or some other irritation that made it impossible to shorten them.

I'm not a fan of the *Uber Tacticool Mark 2 Wanker Pro Rev 4* kinda crap. These look like a pair of khaki pants, but they are comfy and work. I found them for something around $40 locally.

I'd probably take a look at Duluth Trading, as well. But again, $$$.

5.11 gear isn't bad, I'd say it is even pretty darn good...but people who wear 5.11 gear generally annoy me. (No offense to the above...I just get tired of 5.11 clad Uber Tacticool Mark 2 Wanker Pro Rev 4 wannabe billy-badass cops...you know what I mean Wink)

Edit: But I'd have to respect a man who would wear a kilt in public. Even if it was tacticool wanker colored.

I always check lapolicegear under their clearance stuff. A couple years ago Vertx was closing out their covert casual (?) pants. 13 bucks. Ended up with 10 pairs and love them.

Point being check for last years style or discontinued styles. I love Vertx because even their cargo pants look less shoot me first then other brands. I also love their hidden zipper pocket.

I own 5.11 but they just scream out I'm carrying or might be. They also have really obvious elastic which makes me feel like I'm wearing pull-ups plus their sizing always seems off to me.

Kuhls are nice but a little too hipsterish for me. I own some jackets and shorts and their stuff is quality made. I also bought those on steep discount.

Apparently I'm a cheap sob.

I like the Royal Robbins pants they sell at REI. However for heavier duty like construction/rehab stuff I prefer jeans or other heavy cotton.

I like the 5.11 they sell in the BX. For a good looking work cargo pant I like the Duluth fire hose pant. Bought the for me and my college grandsons who work part time.

I forgot Eddie Bauer. I had looked at some of them a few weeks back. I'll add them to the list, and will see if I can find some of the Royal Robbins at the REI. I'll also head to Atlantic Tactical because I think they have the full line of 5.11 pants.
