I have a very particular set of skills |
Greetings, So looking to give the aging 'dogs' a break and get some nicer 'walking around' shoes. I've heard mostly good things about Hoka's, so I put in an order for some of their Challengers - Low in Gore Tex: https://www.hokaoneone.com/men...yPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds They should be here in the not too distant future. Anyone else using Hoka's/Challenger? What say you? Thx in advance, Boss A real life Sisyphus... "It's not the critic who counts..." TR Exodus 23.2: Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong... I’m a hardcore Saucony user but have on occasion used Hoka and Altra for running. In fact I have new pair of Hoka Bondi that I’ll start using in the next week or so. Two of my running buddies swear by Hokas. Many people prefer the extra cushion over traditional running shoes. P229

I started running in 2019 and chose Hoka Cliftons at the running store. I tried on about ten different shoes across many brands and the Hokas felt the best. No complaints. They aren’t the lightest but I ain’t trying to set any records for time or distance, just get in a few miles a few times a week.

Spiritually Imperfect |
Hoka One One Bondis have been my running shoe for almost four years now. Will never go back to Nike. Hokas are pricey, but so worth it. My podiatrist recommended them after a bout of plantar fasciitis.

Just for the hell of it |
I use Hoka Cliftons for running on anything hard. Was getting shin splints and other issues with some shoes I had. Never had issues when trail running(softer terrain) but on assault I was. The Cliftons have a lot of cushions and helped with the issue. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. I like them for running provided its 20 miles or less. More than that I get blisters on my toes and prefer Altras. I think you’ll like them for walking, the cushion is really nice! “People have to really suffer before they can risk doing what they love.” –Chuck Palahnuik Be harder to kill: https://preparefit.ck.page

I love my Hoka’s. I’ve had 3 pair over the last year - Clifton 6, Bondi’s, and Clifton 7’s. I use them for walking for exercise and just everyday wear. Like walking on a wrestling mat. Let us know how you like the Challengers.

Every since I hurt my back/SI Joint in the jan of 2018, I have been having a heck of a time trying to find a running shoe. I was an Saucony user for years but for the last 10 years I have been wearing Asics. For some reason ever since i hurt my back those have not worked. I have been wearing Brooks but they are just not right. I have been looking at Hoka's but never heard of anyone wearing them. Once again Sigforum steps up and provides the needed information. When I get back to NC, I am going to head to the running store and check them out. I also had never heard of Altra's but saw them on woot.com this morning.

I use Hoka Bondi and Stinson shoes, they're so comfortable to walk and run in. I've used the Clifton and Speedgoat too, they're lighter for running.

Don't know about the Challenger, but have been running in Hoka Cliftons for about 3 years. I had been plagued for several years by Achille's problems and plantar fasciitis that have pretty much completely resolved since switching to the Hokas.

Hoka Speedgoats are in my rotation. Fastest growing running shoe brand in the industry right now. Every run specialty shop that sells them, has seen double-digit growth along with favorable company support. They're the second best acquisition Decker's (Ugg's #1) has ever made.

Paddle your own canoe |
I bought a pair for walking and after a couple of weeks, my big toes were so sore I could hardly stand to walk in them. Felt like I had ingrown toenails, could barely stand to touch the end of my big toes. Fortunately they had a 60 day return, and I was glad to get rid of them. I don't recall the model. I prefer the Brooks Adrenalines, and have recently bought a couple pair of Allbirds Tree Dashers, which are much better than Hokas, at least for my feet.

Good enough is neither good, nor enough |
Hokas are great if you don’t mind how ugly most of them are.... i could not get over the aesthetics so I stick to brooks and ASICS. I love the ASICS Nimbus 21s....very cushy ride. There are 3 kinds of people, those that understand numbers and those that don't.

My Time is Yours |
I just ordered the Carbon 2, I'm very curious. I've always been a Gel Kayano runner...this will be interesting. God, Family, Country.

Little ray of sunshine |
My son uses their Kaha boot for light hiking and loves them. I am less a fan of those thick and very soft soles. Hiking and walking shoes are very much a matter of preference, so it is hard to say what you will like. I don't doubt that they are quality. The fish is mute, expressionless. You're in for a whole new experience if you've never run with a plate. Your calf/shins may be a tad exhausted initially given the forward momentum you build-up in plate shoes. Carbon plates are stiff thus, most runners like them for their race shoes or, shooting for best-time shoe, otherwise they can be a tad tiring if what you're really looking for is a trainer or, recovery shoe.

I have a pair of HOKA Cliftons right now. I like them ok, but I will go with the Bondis next time. I had a couple pairs of Bondis, 1 pair I loved should have bought like 3 pairs, then they changed them a bit and I hated that next pair. I would say if you can go to a store and try them out definitely do that.
