Honestly, I'm not a fan of rugs either. I like being able to keep bare flooring easily clean. But I do have some smaller area rugs and even a couple I can throw in the washer. I do have wall to wall in the master BR and I do like that, but I also get it cleaned yearly; sometimes twice.

Interesting you're getting some heat through the hardwood. Since the ductwork is between floors, you can't access it, but it would be interesting to insulate the sides and undersides of it to increase the gain.

Wood floors deserve some area rugs, we have them in family room, kitchen, office, bedroom etc.

Bedroom is two smaller rugs on each side of bed

It's wise to put one down where you'll have any rolling/moving furniture, such as an office chair, they do make better wheel for office chairs designed for wood floors, however I prefer a nice rug.

Floors look great, you're doing a really good job.

Thank you for the compliment! Smile

I've spent more than I expected on felt pads to go on the legs of tables, under bookcases, and things like that. I definitely don't want to scratch the floor doing something stupid. (Oh, wait... I've done that already. Grr!)

I'm researching chair mats now, for there are two rolling chairs going into the office. I'll look into better wheels, too.

Adding to the lessons learned:
- If I do this again, I'm going to buy/build a small cart with air-filled rubber tires. I've constantly been reaching for tools that were just outside of reach. Having a small two- or three-layer cart (no more than about 20" tall) could make the job a lot more neat, organized, and convenient.
- If two people are working on the project, each person needs a full set of the required hand tools. Dad and I spent a lot of time looking for a hammer or such while the other one had it. Back to that cart idea...
- The Dremel (or similar) oscillating multi-tool is a must-have! Great for trimming door trim upward so as to slide a plank underneath.
- If you find something wrong with a plank, don't just set it aside. Mark it before setting it aside! I can't tell you how many times I tried to use a plank and found a problem with it, only to realize I had tried that one before. I've been able to reclaim a few, simply by knowing what was wrong with them and using them accordingly. Ex: cut off the bad end and put that new end toward the wall on the next run; cut out the damaged portion such that it can be sized to fit over the floor vent hole. Wink

Another funny from yesterday: when I put the first whack to the nailer while working in the master BR closet, I thought something was wrong with it. The sound is a LOT different in a closet lined with clothes than in a big empty bedroom. Big Grin
