Many buyers of front loaders seem to regret the purchase.

How do we feel about Maytag vs other brands like Electrolux, GE, etc?

We're buying this as a gift for some wealthy clients, so brand appeal has some factor in the decision making. But, it's being put into a part time home so we don't want to go all out and spend too much.

Maytag's are the best normal front loaders. GE is garbage across the board. Electrolux is ok but can't get parts for them. If you want to go top shelf and pay for it Miele. I'd go Maytag myself, or Miele but nothing in between.

My Whirlpool Duets I bought in Jan of 2010 were AWESOME in every aspect. I did over 30 loads a month with them until Jan 2014 and put Whirlpool Cabrio top loaders in my new house (which don't clean as well as the front loaders and more wrinkles). My tenants are still using the Duet front loaders and have never had to touch them.

Ive been happy with our Bosch washer and gas dryer. Paid little more than average 11 years ago and they've been problem free.

Costco is carrying some nice stuff, but I believe they are top loaders. I think the industry is moving back to top loaders.

Had my LG Tromm’s for 13 years and couldn’t be more pleased. Never had a washer that was so gentle on clothes. I’d say clothes lasting 2X or 3X compared to a top loader, and the pair are very energy/water efficient. Washer finally broke this year and it was $49 part to fix, a cold water inlet valve. Best appliance purchase in my lifetime.

This.

The wife read something about "high efficiency" washers being crap and was determined not to get one. When we needed a new washer, she talked to the guys at the local appliance place and they told her that if she did not want a high efficiency washer, Speed Queen* was the only way to go. She loves it.

(* Note: If I recall, Speed Queen did not offer a front load model.)

Speed Queen I hear are nice, but not very luxe. And they only offer top load for home washers.

Sorry, I did not read the whole thread before responding. I agree. The Speed Queen was pretty "plain" and is a top load. But, to reiterate, the wife has no regrets and loves it. And remember: happy wife=happy life. Big Grin

We bought a set of Maytag front loaders about 20+ years ago. When our daughter bought a house about 15 years ago, we sold them our set and bought a new set of Maytags. Our daughters family has two kids and she uses her set a lot. Our new 15 year old set is running fine. We did need to replace the motherboard in the washer but that was the only repair.

We have had great luck with Siemens front loaders. 13+ years so far on one set that is still going strong, and now 3 years at our other house.

I've been very pleased so far with my Samsung front load washer and dryer.

The pair I'm using now, ( the Ex-wife took the first pair with her ) has been going flawlessly for the last two years. The pair the Ex has now, have been running fine for the last six years.

LG makes some deluxe fancy front loads. Repair and maintenance costs are high.

Earlier this year, I purchased 2017 Speed Queen washer & dryer top load set and we're set. My wife and I did not consider any other brand and money was no object. We now have the Glock of the washer industry; something that works and will continue to work for a long time.

The washer uses a lot of water. The pair will set you back about 2 grand. I hope they are durable amd it is too soon to know that.

Interesting. I'm guessing we bought different models but my experience has been different (only bought a front load washer). The dry spin is very fast and the clothes come out almost dry, even when fully loaded up. Ours does have an end of cycle signal but it's on the quiet side (good and bad). My only complaint is that it's a smaller volume than I would have liked but I can work around that for the quality and reliability (to date).

What's wrong with a top loader? And why must a washer be "luxe" anyway, it's for washing clothes, not getting you out of bed and dressing you?

We have a top-loader HE model from Kenmore and it's been a real workhorse for nearly 5 years now.

I've been using an LG direct drive front load washer and dryer set for almost 12 years now without any problems. The impressive part is that I have 2 daughters so we average 8-10 loads a week.

We've burned through way too many top loaders; three before our last one, which was nuts on reliable but tore the laundry all to hell on any setting above 'wimpy'. After 4 or 5 years of that nonsense (we're slow learners), we bought our first front-loader, a LG. It hasn't been perfect; the drainage pump seems to poop out every 4-6 years or so, but 11 years in it's still chugging along. Plus it's not all that hard or expensive to work on, thanks to Amazon (parts) and YouTube (instruction).

The biggest gripe was getting used to cleaning the rubber gasket around the door opening, something that's not a factor with a top load machine. Really Nasty Gross Stuff starts building up if you don't, since it doesn't drain particularly well any captured water in the formed gutter that it has to channel water away from seeping out the door during operation. Every once and a while we'll run a little bleach through the empty machine to help keep the muck from forming in addition to wiping the gasket down every so often.

Then Miele is what you want. They are known for being the best high end washers and dryers.

Bosch only makes compact laundry units for the US market. The washer is 2.2 cubic ft capacity. Dryer is 4.0 and is ductless/non-vented (condensation dry). They can be placed side-by-side, on pedestals, or stacked.

The 800 series Bosch’s top of the line:
