Green grass and high tides |
I needed to take my 2007 Ridgeline in to have all the fluids changed. So off we went with a bunch of things to do on a day in the city. Got some shopping and other things done. Got to the dealership (great shop) Got the service underway. Had texted the sales guy I know a little bit. Had the miss' so she met him. We knew they did not have a new Passport on the lot. Did have a new RTL white RidgeLine. Truth be told I was hoping she would like it, she die. But wants and SUV (darn it) she told me I already have three trucks This is her rig. So we looked at a low mileage 2020. She and the sales guy took a short drive. Again, she liked it. But new is what we would want. We went through the drill. They low balled me on my low mileage ridgeLine. And wanted full msrp on the Passport. Said no thanks. Paid the service bill and head out. I was not surprised in the least bit. But disappointed. Oh well. Maybe later. One more dealer to hear from. I have a more extensive relationship with the salesperson at the other place. Will see what comes of it. Patients always pays off. Welcome to the New World of automobiles. Sell your truck privately for more money and huge demand. Then go to the dealer, who will sell you a new vehicle for Sticker, if not more. _________________________

MSRP is likely to be a given for you on an ordered car. Run your truck through Carvana.com and see what they offer you. Then recognize that the THOUSANDS more that your Ridgeline is likely worth now via a strong competitive buyer like Carvana will offset paying MSRP on the new truck and be happy again.

as said above -- definitely get your trade-in vehicle priced through Carvana and Carmax. typically much better pricing. of course if you don't mind the hassle -- you could sell it private party for cash -- and pocket a nice premium also paying MSRP for a new one is likely the best deal you'll get these days. ----------------------------- Proverbs 27:17 - As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Agree, msrp is rare, most are selling msrp plus, and that taking it to carvana, car max et all for quotes is smart.

I was at the Honda dealer last week for service on my Accord. The salesman I was talking to told me that the 2023 Pilot will have a hybrid model. I don't know about the Passport. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

Sell that Ridgeline like a Boss! You'll get a great price for it to defray the new Truck, I mean SUV.

Thanks guys, yes 2Pak. I hear you. I was kind of jazzed over the Ridgeline. A beautiful rig. At the end of the session I told the salesman to pound sand more or less. I am not going to do what virtually everyone else is doing. Put down a deposit and get one at full retail when it arrives. Fuck that. I do not need to get screwed to just drive off the lot in a new rig. I completely understand the situation. Why try to work with a buyer when they can put the next guy or gal on the hook at full retail plus. I get it. I am just not that guy. I can put a few hundred into my low mileage Ridgeline and get another 150k easy out of it from what I can tell. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Never miss an opportunity to be Batman! |
Just found out another department close to mine had their new order of Dodge Durango Patrol vehicles cancelled, about 8 months into the order (we ordered 2 Tahoes in July 2021 and have been told they won't be built until April 2022). Dodge has apparently cancelled all police and fire orders so they can use what little number of computer chips they have for commercial (normal sale vehicles) because they and the dealers can make more money on limited resources. Been looking at a couple different vehicles through the Sam's Club and True Car Auto Buying program. It charts sales for the last 30 days or so. Notice that the majority are paying MSRP or 1-2% above, along with a significant percentage paying well above MSRP at 4-6% above. A tiny few are paying below MSRP.

Most dealers will match a printed quote from Carmax or Carvana if your car is something they can sell. JC

yep.MSRP on a new passport in todays market would be pretty good. Got a new 2021 touring for a few thousand off MSRP which at the time was the best I was going to do. If something happened to the vehicle I would want another one and today that would be MSRP but I'd consider it worth it. Unfortunately they dropped the touring trim in 2022

Right now, the used market is inflated big time. You are getting high values for anything used so them lowballing on the trade in is definitely a walk away moment. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Yup, I have done that a couple times in the past. Depending on your state, it could be better to trade at the dealer than to sell to CarMax if the dealer will match the price, because in many states, you save some sales tax on the new vehicle for the value of the trade-in. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Prefer to see what the dealer offers, then, if it's not enough, show them the other offers, you might just cut yourself out of money if you pop out Carmax at first. The dealer might want the car, have a buyer in mind, be really short on inventory, you never know. Yes, you should have in your pocket...
