Another ChromeBook problem Login/Join
Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

My token ChromeBook is so sloooow.
Some web sites are "ok" but some won't even load half the time. I have had it about a year. it was fast to start out by the last few months it has turned to crap.
This happens if running on my household wifi or hot spotting through my phone.
My windows PCs have no problems.
I have cleared cache & cookies a couple of times.
I use PCmatic on my PCs but it can't be used on Chrome.
Was gonna try Malwarebytes but they seem to require a CC number and I don't intend to pay until I know it will help.
Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with ChromeOS, but is there something like Windows Task Manager on it that would show what's running to see if some tasks are consuming large amounts of resources?
I know it's Linux-based; I remember that a nearly full root drive on a Unix system would make it run extremely slow.

For Mac, at least, Malwarebytes is “free and always will be” for manual scans. You only have to pay for the version with “real time protection”.

I’ve used Malwarebytes for at least a decade. The free manual scan version.

That said, I doubt that Malwarebytes will help with your problem.

Simply powerwash the device. All your info is in the cloud. Run the powerwash. Log back in.

Don’t spend any money on worthless software.

Powerwash is a process to reset the chromebook to original condition. It makes it like you just purchased a new Chromebook so you can login and start using it.

I agree with 4MUL8R that you shouldn't need to buy any software.

Hopefully with a chromebook you have a google identity such as first.last@gmail.com.

With that identity you should have a storage space in the google cloud for your pictures, files, music, etc.

If you have all your stuff in the storage associated with your identity, then nothing but the chrome operating system and various apps will be on the local hard drive.

Power washing will restore your computer and update the OS.

The entire point of the chrome book is to have a simple device to engage the cloud. The cloud is the word describing the various servers that physically or virtually store your data.

Thanks for the education on Power Wash.
Seems to have done the trick.
