That's what I was taught for dealing with a bomber, even as a non-SWAT officer.

Shoot for the T-box (facing) or the ear (side profile) in order to put them down instantly by severing the brain stem/spinal column, inducing flaccid paralysis and removing their ability to react and detonate.

Years ago I had a conversation with a British friend of my brother, and after talking cars and other guy-stuff I criticized the disarmed British police. He said, if they needed guns they kept some at the police station that they could access if necessary. In my best Texas drawl, I said, "That's the slowest draw I ever heerd of." He laughed, and my point was made.

Now, at least here in the USA, and for the moment unless we remain vigilant, we argue that the armed citizen is the best defense.

RogueJSK, that small box has always been my default setting, but any head shot should be disorienting enough to allow a follow-up to end the threat, IMO.

Seven minutes from call to kill is pretty good in my book. He seems to have been stopped in mid-rant, if that's what he was doing.

When seconds count, the Police are only minutes away!
