Staying in the hotel, my wife went to the front desk for towels. An older lady started complaining to the front desk worker that dogs out back were barking and locked in a car. The front desk lady knew they were our dogs and through the conversation they both started telling my wife how shitty we were. My wife said we have owned those dogs for years and we know how to treat them. The front desk clerk told my wife to, "get your dogs and get out of our hotel".

My wife walked away. I was waiting for her to go walk the dogs. She told me what happened when she got back to the room so we walked the dogs and I went up front. I asked, "what's the problem with the dogs?" She said, "you cant have dogs in your car". I asked, "who says?" She said, "the law". I said, "that's simply not true, so what is the problem with speaking to my wife that way?". The lady responded, "Your wife is lucky I didn't come over this counter". At this point I am laughing, I said, "you're lucky you didn't". My wife grew up Latina in a third world country. This lady didn't want that smoke.

The cops and animal control came. They commented on how nice of kennels I have and the setup I have in the truck for the dogs. I mentioned the aggressive nature of the front desk worker and told them honestly, if she wants to follow through we are game.

The cops noted, as I mentioned and knew, that its 76 degrees outside, my side/back windows on the topper and the tailgate are open, and my dogs look great so they don't see any problem. I told them we had taken them to a park earlier today with a pond so my LAB and HEELER (both love water) were wet and muddy so they were in the truck for 3 hours to dry off. 100% the police and animal control were understanding and on my side.

Bottom line, I think I got nabbed by some northern dumbasses. Sorry northern folks, I've spent the better part of 42 years down south where a dog in an open truck bed is considered a happy dog. I know I'm generalizing but fuck me, who else complains about a dog being in 76 degree weather?

I shoulda let Jelly have at the front desk lady and the older one who probably has a tiny lap dog she takes into restaurants and grocery stores. They may not think dogs are little humans anymore. Jelly doesn't play that shit.

Maybe that was the problem. I am a dog person, but our next door neighbor leaves and allows their dog to bark for hours at a time.

I told the cops that the puppy barks sometimes. The cop assured us, "we had no complaints about barking, only that dogs were left alone in a vehicle".

I assure you 100% that I do not like my dogs being a nuisance, I walk them regularly, bring them inside if they find something to bark at, etc. I wager the puppy was whining because she had to go potty. I had just walked them 2 hours earlier so she wasn't dying. And I had leashes in hand to walk them with my wife when she went to ask for towels.

This was people trying to prove a point.

Q, it was 6 PM and the girls have first day of school tomorrow so we didn't want to spend 3 hours loading, moving, unloading everything in our suite. We close on the house on Thursday and will be out Thursday afternoon so we will lay low until then and hope the front desk doesn't do anything stupid.

Needless to say I'll be recording on video all interactions with them from this point forward. They already have one loss and considering this is a big chain I don't think they want to kick a PCS'ing service member out without warrant and face that backlash.

I don't play the card often but GD if I won't when it's necessary.

sounds like things got off to a rocky start with the wife and this noise broad.

What did the cops say her complaint was?

A waste of everyone's time.

Play it cool and it will be something you will remember for years that will be. Honey remember that, wtf? Cool

We had a similar deal 30 years ago at a state campground and getting some water. The idiot that was the cg host thought he was the sheriff for the entire state of MT. What a dumb ass. I emptied 5 gallons of water at his feet and told him, call the fucking sheriff. I know him well.

I had a similar incident in Naples, FL. Had my dog in his crate in the truck bed with all the topper windows open, parked in the shade, 75 degrees, and my dog had water. I went down to check on him, Animal Control was actually there talking to some guy. I introduced myself, the guy starts yelling at me, Animal Control asks the guy to calm down and step back, Animal Control ask me a few questions, says no problem, and the guy starts telling me how he just loves animals.

I’d put money on the guy in Naples being a yankee.

Sorry to hear about the hotel hassle. If you are in need to get away let me know.

Your dogs are welcome at my place. I have a few ground hogs for them to play chase with.

Huh? Please, go on. How do you jump to that?
I guess I'm ignorant on the goings on down south.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful but what kind of a hotel did you go to that would have a receptionist with an attitude like that?

One time on a road trip where we bring our two mini poodles along, we left them in the hotel room. We've left them before no problem. We were going to eat dinner at my wife's friend.

We were sitting around after dinner. I get a call on my phone. I always get spam calls. I remarked, "these scammers are smart! How did they know I'm in this area code because they're spoofing the area code."

My wife said it could be the hotel. Sure enough. The receptionist left a voice mail that the guests next door was complaining about our dogs barking and we weren't supposed to have left them.

We get back. Sure enough they were barking as we were walking down the hallway. I open the door. The dogs see us and they were smiling as if saying, "See, it worked. They came back!"

I went down to the receptionist to apologize and they weren't in the least concerned. They were actually pleasant and said they moved the people to a different room. Problem solved. And this was just a Best Western.

My wife said the previous times worked because we brought their kennel with us and that's where we left them.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Of course you are. You're a yankee. Big Grin (I'm from Georgia, btw Wink )

It's just some cultural poking across the Mason-Dixon; don't sweat it.

Hotels seem to live and die based on customer reviews. The location you're in is likely a franchise, and corporate wants to know if anything is not perfect. Call them up and let them know.

I went on a multi-state work related road trip last fall, staying at several hotels along the way. Literally showed up at night, slept, ate breakfast the next morning, and left. I don't even remember the issue at one of them, but I left them 4 stars instead of 5 on their e-mailed survey.

The owner of that hotel called me personally to apologize that they didn't meet my expectations and to discuss the issue.

Business owners can't fix any issue if they don't know it exists, so do the next guy with dogs a favor and let their management know.

I’ve got a meeting with the general manager at 1400 today. Not insulting northerners guys, I’ve commented on how nice everyone has been in another thread. I just met my first northern Karen. No different than the southern variety, just a little less tan.

Around here with an air temperature of 76 degrees, if your vehicle is in the sun then the temperature inside it is going to be much hotter. Even with windows partially open.

I take my dog much of the time, as able. It’s always a consideration, temps & length of times with any stops.

The worst I got was a note on the window, in the shade, 20 minute break at a State Park.

Happened to me once. I was working a half day out in Cooperstown and thought I'd bring the pooch along and go play in the lake afterwards. Mid 70s, parked in the shade, windows on the topper open, bucket of water = happy dog. I get a page that the police were looking for me out in the parking lot. Get changed, walk out there, and a few Karens had called the cops for animal cruelty. They'd even gone so far as to take my dog out of my truck and had him (on their leash) about 20 yards away. I was not amused. Nor were the cops. It's a good thing that they were there though, as it would have gotten ugly real fast. You don't fuck with a man's car, his wife, or his dog.
