I have a BOA account and a couple CC's and have no issues with them but it is a simple account, and I pay the cards off each month

however, I had a 401K that was sold to Wells Fargo, and my father had several accounts with them

when dad passed, instead of continuing to send statements on a business loan, they sent it directly to collections,
despite repeated calls as an heir, they did nothing,

a few months later I was able to aquire the funds to pay it off, and it took 6 days with a local branch manager to get thru to someone to pay the damn loan off,

the branch manager was extremely embarrassed about the way we were treated, and the way he was treated by corporate,

we had a nick name for Wells Fargo, which was Well Fuckme,

after that fiasco was settled, I called and had my 401K transferred out of Well Fuckme, and the guy I spoke to was very too the point and could fucking care less either way

now all my business stuff (that we carried over from dad's) is with a really good local bank,

a few years ago I picked up an estate from a guy that had his house foreclosed by WF,

he had a loan on a trailer, then sold the trailer (he and his brother were long haul truckers) and never paid off the loan,

just made small payments and eventually it went to collections,
despite his filing bankruptcy, and the other brother died, WF still foreclosed and sold his house at auction, while he was living in it,

and according to the surviving brohter, WF could not tell him the balance of the loan, or what a payoff was , but did say if the house sale covered it, he would get the excess,

which he never did

I had no intention or belief I could get in contact with the owner of the card. I just wanted to let the bank know.

Yes, I posted that I found an item, no mention of what it was, just the name of the person, but so far no response.

I tried, no results.

I left it at a branch an hour ago.

Not a chance. This school has a student body of over 3,000. Between students and parents there were easily over 1,000 people at the game. And that was a light night. Next week, end of season rival game, that number will be around 2,000.

You did the right thing, nice that someone found it that gives a darn about that.

No banks going to give out any information and probably not take a stolen/lost card report except from the account holder for security reasons.

My first hand experience is that WF is absolutely incompetent.
Opened an account because their website listed a branch in my soon to be hometown. Except that it was only a brokerage branch with no banking.
Final straw was I couldn't use the electronic banking feature because our joint account was titled with a trust name. After several failed attempts to figure it out on the phone by my wife, only to have their solutions not work I finally went well out of my way and parked myself at one of the branches until they figured it out. Once I knew the ground rules the account was immediately closed.

Yes they are bad. very bad. I've seen the "mistakes" (fraud ?) via thousands of dollars each time, multiple times, over the years. "Oops, let me fix that for you". Next month: "oh I see where we fixed that, and I have NO IDEA how it happened again". I wouldn't trust Wells Fargo with a penny. When you have to guess was it incompetence or fraud, over and over again, you need a new bank.

Not of fan of BOA. Get my monthly statement yesterday and see a charge same amount 3 times from a foreign address. When I call in to report it the recorded message says " we denied a charge on your card on the 17th. for X amount. Well that's nice but you allowed 3 more the next day from the same source! So of course I have to cancel the card wait 2 weeks to get a new card and then call and get the new card added to several accounts. Anyway in the last few years this happens pretty often. Moreso with BOA than any other card I have. Not a fan but also not a fan of Wells Fargo either. Mad

I did not find them to be incompetent. I found them to be belligerent and hostile.

My wife had an LLC for her mental health practice. Her business account was at a credit union, and her personal account was at a Wells Fargo branch across the street from the credit union.

I handled her bookkeeping. I wrote a paycheck for her, drawn on the business account, every month, and deposited it in her personal account. After many months of doing this, I went into the WF branch to deposit her paycheck, and out of the blue, the cashier refused to accept the deposit. No explanation other than something about it had to be "verified." I told the cashier to look at the account history and see that the same deposit transaction, for the same amount, was done on the same date each month, like clockwork, with never a problem. NOPE, it had to be "verified" but the cashier was not able to give me any meaningful explanation of the verification process.

I pointed out that this was a DEPOSIT, not a withdrawal, and the account already had a cleared balance that was more than ten times the amount of the check. NOPE, deposit needed to be "verified."

Within 24 hours, my wife opened a personal checking account at a different financial institution, and I went back to WF to close all accounts. Same cashier wanted to give me the close-out funds in the form of a certified check; I told her that her check was not "verified" and I demanded cash. She refused. I had a major "discussion" with the branch manager, during which my vocal volume escalated and every customer in the place was listening, all fascinated by the dialog (which got colorful at times). I walked out with a large wad of cash and some applause from the onlookers (and yes, I was packing protection).

Wells Fargo and BofA both suck...that's not even a strong enough way to say...they're both absolutely atrociously terrible.

I switched to Chase for by big bank back in 2018 and haven't looked back. I've been pretty happy with them so far.

I use my local credit union for some things...technology wise...like most credit unions...they are about 10 years behind a bank like Chase. Their rates and in-person service is outstanding though.

Wells Fargo was bad, but B of A tried to foreclose my mortgage when I had about 5k left to pay, and was about 12 years AHEAD on payments. Took two weeks of concentrated effort via phone, fax, letter and text, but I got it resolved AND the remainder of my note forgiven. Guess that was cheaper than the lawsuit I would have filed.

That was normal almost 20 years ago. I remember a couple of times calling a bank that a customer left a card in my store and they always would just cancel it and send a new one.

Attempted a re-fi of our mortgage in the early 2000’s with W-F when rates were rapidly dropping, loan balance was still in the five digit territory. Had been with W-F since our loan was sold multiple times and they were the final owner.

We were house shopping and had been for some time not finding what suited us. Explained this to the loan officer and he said that it wasn’t worth his time to process this loan unless we took out an amount equal to the present balance thereby pushing the loan to the six digit territory, not an option for us.

So we went with a different mortgage company fully explaining the house hunting part. Loan officer said he would but asked if we would consider him for our next loan which we agreed to.

About two weeks from closing I got a call from W-F regarding the upcoming change. This loan officer made the usual fawning points, credit score, how long we had been with them, payments on time, etc. And asked why we had not considered them for our re-fi.

I told him we had but upon being told that our balance wasn’t high enough to “make it worth my time”(previous loan officer’s exact words) there was no way I’d consider them for any further business. He did say that he was a senior loan officer and that he would be having a conversation with the one that blew me off. For what good that would do.

If nothing else, WF should have deactivated it. It might be a few days before the person realizes they've lost it.

They aren't the only ones that fit that category, but as someone who works with them (off and on these days, we keep firing WF and they keep coming back) I can confirm the statements.

I would add that barely legal is being generous. IN both cases they take A LOT of liberty with what is considered legal, and will only apologize if forced in court, maybe. I see illegal lending activity with WF on a regular basis. NO ONE CARES.

Definitely keep money with WF at your own risk, you've been warned so many times on this forum and other places. No one can claim they haven't heard about WF's practices and history of bending rules to scam or take advantage.

WF gave me a lot of grief about 10 years ago when I was disputing a charge on their credit card. It was for a $35.00 charge to a store I had never seen, two states away. I stuck with the dispute until they gave in. I had no luck on the phone so I started going to branches and taking up 30 - 90 minutes of a real persons time on each of about five visits. It was the principal of the thing. I moved my money to a credit union soon after and never looked back. I hate their management style and that bleeds down to their suck ass employees. Other than that they're a great bank.
