I love Mo! Where should I find a place chill? We want to retire in a non-woke area.

How far away from people do you want to be? Do you need access to reliable healthcare facilities?

If you don’t mind driving, there’s many options. I would recommend somewhere in the Camdenton-Lebanon corridor. Access to Lake Ozark for leisure activities, but not too far from Springfield for your bigger city needs.

We used to live in Nixa (south of Springfield). If I were moving back to the area I’d be looking in the SW MO area, maybe somewhere out west of Springfield on Hwy 60. Easy access to Springfield and NW AR area (which is blowing up), plus Tablerock Lake and Branson.

Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view.

Complacency sucks…

The Table Rock Lake area is nice...

That's what I came here to post. Southwest Missouri is what you seek.

Unless you want to live in a suburb of Springfield, or out in the country, Joplin is a decent mid-sized SW MO town that would be worth exploring. And it's ~1 hour to either NW AR or Springfield (both for stuff to do as well as more in-depth medical care), a bit further to Branson, Table Rock Lake, Beaver Lake, etc. for recreation, and 3-4 hours to Kansas City/St. Louis for big city stuff.

Or you could just skip Missouri altogether and come on down a bit further to the NW Arkansas Metroplex. Big Grin

Every time I'm crossing the area on I-44, I time a morning visit to:

Dude's Daylight Donuts
2316 S Main St, Joplin, MO 64804

And, naturally, Missouri Hick Barbeque if you're anywhere near Cuba MO. Save room for the cobbler.

Joplin looks interesting. We need a place that has reliable internet since I'm in IT and have been working from home since the Corona BS.

And if you like trout fishing, Bennett Springs is right there.

EDITED TO ADD: That Lebanon/Springfield/Joplin area is one of those places that as long as you have gas in your car, there is something fun to do.

I live just outside of Houston, MO. If you are wanting better access to health care, I'd suggest the Cabool or Mountain Grove areas. They are only an hour or so from Springfield where there are some good hospitals.

If you have any particular questions about the area, just let me know. I'd be happy to help.

SigM4, Isn't Nixa the place in Mo where there is still a Civil War cannonball imbedded at the top of one of the columns of the Courthouse bldg.? Maybe it was Polo? I'm so old I can't remember everything, haha.
Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack this thread.

Oh yeah!

I try to time my trips to/through St. Louis to allow for a lunch or dinner stop in Cuba. Great food.

Has anyone tried Lamberts in Ozark Missouri, home of the "throwed rolls"?

Eh, it’s ok. The rolls themselves are good, but the rest of the food is just ok.

I like the area around Cape Girardeau/Jackson. It’s rabid Trump country. Democrats don’t do well, in even local elections. The home of Rush Limbaugh.

And Sikeston has a Lambert’s. I like the rolls. They also have great chicken and dumplings.

Cape is a couple of hours from everywhere.

No, purely because everyone I know that has been there says "don't bother".

That's Lexington, MO, where they rolled hemp bales up the hill for cover while attacking.

Trust the locals to describe distance in time, not miles. You get off many main roads in the lower half of Missouri you're looking at very twisty two lane roads, big elevation changes and a whole new deal with bad weather.
