Sears CEO Just Doesn't Seem To Get It
Nooooo, it's not the "media" that's the problem here. It's your company refusing to get with the times and give people what they wanted, your refusal to update your 1980's-relic sack sack stores and your PRICES you dumbass.

Sears CEO Lampert blames company's woes on 'irresponsible' media

Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD.O) Chief Executive Officer Edward Lampert blasted the media on Wednesday for "unfairly singling out" the company over the past decade and blamed "irresponsible" coverage for the retailer's woes.

Sears, once the largest U.S. retailer, warned investors in March there was a chance it may not be able to continue as a going concern after years of losses and declining sales.

About two dozen mid-size retailers have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the past two years amid fierce online competition and rapidly changing consumer tastes, while large department stores like Macy's Inc (M.N) and J C Penney Company Inc (JCP.N) have announced store closures for this year.

Lampert, a hedge fund investor who is rarely seen in public, kicked off his appearance at an annual shareholders' meeting at Sears' headquarters in Hoffman Estates, Illinois with a slideshow of headlines about the company's financial distress, dating back to 2008. (bit.ly/2qtqFL8)

"You'd think it was from a month ago, but it's literally been going on for a decade," Lampert told about 70 people in attendance.

70 people in attendance. Probably half of those are employees / execs required to be there.

That shows how much relevance Sears has in modern society.

They are a shell of various distressed assets masquerading as a retail enterprise.

They have no intention of becoming a thriving company.

The only thing worse than irresponsible uninformed speculation is irresponsible, uninformed speculation that happens to be accurate.

This is kabuki theater while Sears transitions through a real estate repurposing.

I rarely go into a sears but I did last week to get their brass quick connect hose couplers. 1st off no sales people anywhere. 2nd, I was looking at the garden hoses and accessories, after all it springtime, nothing but empty hooks. They have slipped to "no reason to ever go there again" category.
So that's what you have with the almighty sears and roebuck company, not the media's fault.

Indeed. I gave up on Sears some time ago after my 3rd trip looking for something, could find no one to ask, or even wait on me if I had found what I wanted.

IIRC, he bought the company basically as a real estate play. He had no use for the retail business.

If this is a real estate play, what is the guy expecting to replace those Sears stores with? Is there another big box store model to replace Sears?

Some years ago, the big Sears store on University Ave. in San Diego closed and sat empty and forlorn for awhile.

You should see that space now! A Ralph's, dozens of small businesses....... Somebody is making a boatload.

Every situation is different, of course, for each property, and you can't do them all at once, but he is betting that there is a great deal more value than the cost of the shares.

Sears home improvement just pissed off my wife, they wouldn't come out to give her a quote on a bathroom remodel unless I was there.

I've been popping in there lately to round out some odds and ends in regards to my tools. Everything Craftsman I have is Made in US stuff from the 80's and 90's and in very good shape.I want to finish out the set with some missing sockets, hand tools, pliers etc when while I can and only if I find them online and still made in USA. Some stuff is China but certain things are still made in USA. So I order on line and pick up in store.

There is NO WAY this place is going to survive. I've been into probably 4 different Sears stores lately and even on a busy Saturday with the whole Mall teaming with people, walking into Sears is like walking into a funeral parlor. No customers, no noise, no salespeople, it's empty. I went into one at 7:30pm and an older gentleman was fighting over ringing me up with another associate. As I was completing my purchase he told me "I'm so glad you came in, I was about to work a whole day without ringing up one sale. THANK YOU! That's just sad.

Sears started as a catalog outfit. If they had gone back to their roots, they could have out-Amazoned Amazon. But that ship has sailed.

Remember, Sears Holding Co. is part of K-Mart - they acquired Sears a few years back.

Sears was once the one to compare business - now that K-Mart owns them, they are the one to compare what you DON'T want to be . . . .

I haven't been in the local Swear and Takeback in years.
Time for them to close up shop.

For retaining the CEO who actually believes in the crap that he said, Sears deserves to go out of business.

The CEO personally loaned Sears several hundred million to make payroll I read somewhere. He did it to lay claim to the real estate that Sears owns, for pennies on the dollar (Sears collapses, he gets a billion dollars worth of real estate for WAY less than market price) He saw the writing on the wall years ago, and decided to make himself a very, very rich man, at the expensive of Sears and the other creditors, in the process. Scumbag.
