I’m leaning toward a cross draw right now from Kirkpatrick leather.

I’m thinking one with a belt would work just fine for time when I retire. Around the property I often come inside, eat, do whatever so taking it on and off quickly would be beneficial. It being able to slide a bit would be nice. And the cross draw works well getting on/off a tractor or side by side often.

Any thoughts to this. I don’t want to look like a cowboy but I think it may offer some benefits. Maybe even another holster for the 610 to change out sometimes.

OP:

Finally found a Ruger 10mm Blackhawk with the 4.6 barrel. I love milt sparks and may order a 200AW.

For those of you with single actions, do you have any recommendations for field-style holsters?

I have a Galco Wrangler for my Blackhawk 44. Nice holster for the price. I wouldn't do tactical stuff with it but for traipsing thru the woods, it's great.

Older Hunter brand holsters, their 1100 series, which can be found inexpensively on ebay. (Their current production of that holster is poor quality leather in my opinion.)
For something more a bit more upscale, look at El Paso Saddlery, especially their Duke (#44 Outfit) and double loop mexican (1880 Ranger) styles.

Uh oh...old guy brain. I have one of these too. I like it better, but the Blackhawk looks better in the other one.

Rob at simply rugged makes a bunch of different field holsters that are slimmer than the pancake and have straps as well as no straps. I have used his holsters from AK (where I first met him) to all across the lower 48 and over in the Middle East. Highly recommend!!

I kept my Super Blackhawk in a Bianchi Cyclone. Ebay has used ones at reasonable prices occasionally.

Just want to post my favorite outfit. The sheepskin lining makes it like putting your gun in a Rig rag every time. David Newcomb, an older Kentucky craftsman made holsters and knives in a 19th century workshop. He was around in the early days of Para's S&W forum and always had cool stuff. Revolver is a 5screw .357 pre 27 w 5" barrel and sambar stags. If I could just have 1 this is it. Smile

It worked out well for the Cowboys for a long time.
You can go Kydex, but look dumb as hell because a single action belongs in leather. (Prove me wrong!)

One or two choices for reloads-
Single rounds around the belt- you know, traditional.
Second choice- get a few extra cylinders, and use a full cylinder as a reload.

Lots of options that might work from Barranti Leather. I use their Summer Classic IWBs for DA revolvers, but they have tons of field-friendly options for both SAs and DAs.

If you don’t see exactly what you want, give Mike / “Doc” a call and he may be able to help you out.

I like the Mernickle Field holster, I've had two for different sixguns and they worked well.

Check out the offerings from Kirkpatrick Leather. I’ve got a BBQish rig that is of very high quality. They’ve got several designs and I’m thinking you’ll enjoy one of them. Most are shown with a belt, I can’t imagine you have to get one.

Doc Barranti (link has already been posted in this thread) makes a great IWB for single actions. Sounds strange, but it really works well. I sometimes carry my Ruger Single Seven in it.
Worth every penny.

I use El Paso Saddlery, I have a Tom Threepersons, and the #44 Outfit. For the big bore, I use a Diamond D guides choice.

Depends on your budget and specific needs. I have a Galco model #SA0142 for my 4 5/8 rugers. Can carry strong side or cross draw. A guy threw it in with an old model vaquero that I bought and turns out it’s quite handy if pistol hunting pigs in brush, cross draw is nice. Strong side is nice when on a quad or longer hiking or open range hunting.

Stumbled upon this website several months ago, and the guys at Arizona Ghostriders (YouTube) gave them a shout out this morning. Authentic looking, several brands and styles.

Me, I just have a fairly run of the mill Triple-K holster from Cabela's for my Vacquero.
