New Jersey Dems begin process that would lead to paying reparations to black Americans

Democrats wrote the book when it comes to buying votes at the taxpayer’s expense, but the chapter on reparations has yet to be released and the state of New Jersey is looking to be more than just a footnote here.

From the same cabal that calls the killing of unborn children “reproductive justice,” we now have “reparative justice,” with black New Jersey lawmakers introducing a bill that would establish a Reparative Justice Task Force, as described in a press release from the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice.

The bill calls for New Jersey to examine its role in slavery and racial discrimination or disparity that may have resulted from it, and if deemed necessary, pay reparations to black residents, the Associated Press reported.

Democratic state Sen. Sandra Cunningham says that it’s time “we begin the long and painstaking process to rectify our past,” according to the AP.

While New Jersey fought for the Union in the Civil War, it was the last northern state to abolish slavery.

The many problems with reparations, which will carry a price tag into the trillions of dollars, begins with who is eligible and who pays. How is it determined who is a direct descendant of slaves, and why should families who had ancestors die fighting to free the slaves be expected to pay?


Some estimates say 30 million people would be in line for a check from Uncle Sam.

The New Jersey legislation takes the hard-left’s “critical race theory,” which claims that all white people are inherently racist and that racism is ingrained in our society — “structural racism” — from liberal college campuses to the statehouse.

“The Task Force will focus on repairing structural racism in New Jersey that can be traced back to slavery in the state and around the country, and recommend targeted policies and investments in Black communities that will address the lasting damage of America’s — and New Jersey’s — original sin,” the Institute said in the release.

Ryan P. Haygood, President & CEO of the Institute, perpetuates the notion that black people are victims who struggle to compete in society because of obstacles established hundreds of years ago.

“Four hundred years after the arrival of the first Black people in Jamestown as captives, many people don’t realize that slavery had deep roots in northern states like New Jersey, and that it left an ugly and pervasive legacy that still plagues us today with some of the worst racial disparities in the nation,” Haygood declared, according to The Newark Times. “Whether it’s wealth, youth justice, or voting rights, Black people in New Jersey face challenges that their white neighbors don’t.”


Democratic 2020 presidential front-runner Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., has expressed support for reparations.

Warren said in a statement back in February: “We must confront the dark history of slavery and government-sanctioned discrimination in this country that has had many consequences including undermining the ability of Black families to build wealth in America for generations.”

Quickly fading presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., has also backed reparations, as has former Obama administration Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro.

This wouldn't even be federal tax dollars. It would be state tax dollars. I have the misfortune of being a NJ resident. Too much family here to move. The really sad part is that this won't hurt NJ Democrats at all. And if this goes through, I wonder how many people from out of state will show up to create NJ residences to collect their checks.

As a cynic, I expect that many NJ families will suddenly discover a black ancestor in their family tree. Or maybe just one who self-identified as black.

This will be the beginning of the next civil war.

How many generations will receive these 'reparations'? Will it be forever payments to all Black Americans? Will 1865 be the cut off point? Is there any former slave still living? Or will the determining factor be that the recipient is related to a former slave?

It's all for show for people they want to vote for them that don't think.
Republicans do the same type of things. Making proposals that will go nowhere that their base fantasizes over.

We all know the answer. ANY black resident will get a big, fat check. No 'proof of slave ancestry' required. Checks will likely continue coming in indefinitely to ensure black votes for dems.

Yep. Let the DNC write any "reparations" checks. Democrats opposed Lincoln every step of the way, led the segregationists, and systematically broke up black families. Fault is theirs, let them 'reparate' away if they feel so inclined, as long as only their own money they waste.

In addition to these questions, and admittedly I don't know the specifics of New Jersey resident's slave ownership history, I'll be interested to know how New Jersey will compensate the ancestors of freed black slaves who later went on to own black slaves of their own.

If this false principle is codified, the sacrifice of actual reparations will be dwarfed by the destruction of every other aspect of American life deemed to be culpable for some unjust act historically or currently. Example: Harley Davidson passed over a minority hire 70 years ago so all Harley dealers today must pay reparations and every Harley owner is a racist. Sound ridiculous? PC is driven by emotion. With enough emotion anything seems rational.

Intergenerational collective condemnation is a false principle (actually two false principles combined). Hate speech is a false principle. When we adopted the hate speech principle, it seemed harmless. But today we see free speech being attenuated all over the nation. Now we are not free even though we value free speech. This collective condemnation is turbocharged oppression of the innocent. Intergenerational collective condemnation is insult to injury.

Oh good. More incentive for some folks to continue sitting on their asses waiting for someone else to pay their way.

My family came in 1939. We are free from any debt owned to slavery. Please check with those Mexicans next door their family ha been in the Americas since the 1600's. They've benefited directly from slavery, not me. Thank you for your time.
