Well, I tried, apparently I do not know how to post a video. I have a Samsung front loading washing machine. It came with the house we bought 15 months ago. I have no idea the age of the washer, but let's say between 5-10 years. When we moved in, I do not recall any noise. But slowly the noise has increased during the spin cycle. To the point that if it is a large load and on a high speed spin, it almost hurts the ears to stand next to the washer. Here is a very light load on medium spin. https://youtube.com/shorts/y-peYHrF1jg There is no knocking or banging. The loads are always balanced. I assume there is a bearing(s) that has worn out. Is this worth calling a repair man? Or do I just buy a new top loader at Costco for $499?This message has been edited. Last edited by: holdem,

Is it like this? https://youtu.be/foLMZjGUoy8?t=22 I think they are saying that one is a bad bracket. Watched another video and some say it's the bearing and others mention the spyder bracket among other things. Seems to be a pretty common problem.

Thank you Very little |
Check with Samsung using the age and serial number, if it's 10 years old, then maybe the new Costco unit is smart if it meets your needs at $500, plus they will remove the old one and install the new at no charge. Call a few service techs to see what the service call charge is, if it's only 5 years or so old may be good to fix it. There are a few appliance only boards where you can put in the model number and post your image on the board, ask questions, they sell parts, and help folks online as a tool to get you to buy. So far they have been spot on for me with past repairs. https://appliantology.org/foru...pliance-repair-help/ At some point buying new makes sense, if it's $500 to fix a 10 year old washer, replace it that's of course jmo

Not really. That one is clicking and banging. Mine doesn't do that. Mine is like a jet engine, but at a different pitch.

Good call, it appears this unit is just over 4 years old. I have someone I have used for other appliances, service call is $95. Which means with parts, etc I'll probably be in $200. I am thinking $500 makes sense. It is as nice as my current one. Top loading instead of front loading. And brand new.

Yes, it's a bearing. I know the sound you're describing and it's LOUD.

Back, and to the left |
Yeah, anything that sounds like a jet or even a flying saucer from a fifties movie is a bearing.

For two bills on a 4 year old unit I'd fix it since it's not a cheap model. That of course, unless Momma really wants a top loader, btw if she's height challenged those new top loaders are DEEP, might want to take her to Costco, hit the wine section for her pick up some prime steaks, and then see if she likes how the top loaders work. My wife couldn't reach the bottom of the top loader that I wanted and nixed the deal.. I'm not ready to take over that task considering the amount of grandkid clothes, towels from pool use, etc, mowing the yard is plenty work!

I's check for a loose, skewed, or flexing bracket, and a dry bearing, then tighten or re-pack/replace as appropriate, but then, I get a fair amount of satisfaction out of fixing things myself. If you're short on time and/or inclination, I'd suggest replacing the dryer as appliances aren't built to last any more, and once the problems start, they usually signal more to come.

It's the bearing at the back of the basket. I've replaced mine and did it myself. Not recommended if your unit is more than 10 or so years old. It's not that the bearing has worn out but rather it's the seals that have worn and that let's in water that rusts everything. If you don't replace the bearing, it continues to wear and will eventually cause the basked to spin in a bigger and bigger circle and it will damage the front of the basket as it hits the inside of the door. Dealers don't replace the bearing but instead replace the entire basket. $800-$1k plus labor. I bought a kit and did it myself but it took an entire day. PITA job but it's the bearing that's going bad. Sounds like a jet engine.
