New Smart phone how much storage do I need? 256GB or 512GB
So my Samsung S9+ is starting to act up so I'm reluctantly looking at buying a new phone. I've narrowed my choices down to the Samsung S25 Ultra or S25+ and need to decide how much storage do I need 256GB or 512GB. I don't do anything with my phone except make phone calls, text, internet access and at times navigation and of course I use the camera when I travel. I'm thinking I should be OK with 256GB but going with the 512GB is only a little more expensive per month and maybe its good to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. So looking for advice.
Update: Decided to go with the S25 Ultra because I like the slightly larger screen. Thanks for everyone's advice and input. This message has been edited. Last edited by: calugo,

if you don't take a lot of video, then 256GB
If you're a teenager aspiring to have your own YouTube channel, and video everything that you see, then 512GB
you can do what I do --- take video on vacations, etc until the phone starts to fill up then offload the video to a real computer.

I would think 256 would be plenty.
My iPhone 14 has 128GB. I have 5,883 photos, 267 short videos, and 35 apps on it and I still have 79.5GB remaining.

Radioman, how do you offload video from the phone to the desktop?

It depends.
I have young kids and I'm constantly taking video and pictures of them and my wife is constantly sending video and pictures so 256 GB barely is enough. I'm hanging onto my iPhone 12 Pro until at least this fall, but my next phone will need more storage. If you are using cloud-based storage you don't need as much locally on your phone.
My elderly mom doesn't take much of her own video, but she constantly is receiving it and storing it from me, my brother, and my sister...so she needs more storage. The 512 GB version is what she has.
My elderly dad takes almost no photos and takes no video so he doesn't really need much at all.

Thanks Gents it looks like 256GB is more than enough for my phone use. I seldom to never take videos and the only time I take a lot of pictures is when I'm on vacation Otherwise I just use my phone to make phone calls and texts.

My 256GB iPhone has a Synology Photos Mobile app that backs up any new photos or videos once a week to a Synology NAS with over 45TB of RAID storage. Backup occurs automatically over wifi directly from phone to NAS. Could be setup to backup via cellular from anywhere, but don’t take enough photos or videos to make that necessary.

I just recently got the S25+ and 256GB is plenty for my use...I thought the Ultra was bit too big to comfortably hold
Sounds much like what you're going to use it for. The only video I take is during shooting matches

Just FYI, nobody has ever said "I wish I had gone with less memory." Buy once, cry once.
What more memory, speed, or storage buys you is time before you have to upgrade again.
That having been said, if you only use your phone for texts, calls, and occasional photos, you should be fine.

100%, get the 512, no hesitation.
My 13 works fine, but out of memory with almost no videos. Every month; the apps themselves get larger. A couple bills more for the 512 will essentially make the phone viable for a few more years vs the smaller one
