With my locations since joining the Navy being what they were, the only shooting I’ve done was a few backwoods fun days when I went home…mostly with borrowed equipment. My ear pro and targets and everything else pretty much died while in storage. I’m strongly considering Sordin Pro-X for hearing protection. Does anyone have a good suggestions for a smaller (2 pistol) size range bag? And targets, is there a decent place to buy in bulk? It’s an indoor range so they supply the cardboard and all. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

I moved to a GPS backpack style range bag, well made and carry’s everything I need for a trip to the range. My only negative would be the price. Midway has options that are substantially cheaper but I have no experience with them. Speaking of targets, I usually buy mine from Midway or Target Barn. I have been using Sordin ear protection for over a decade with my latest being the Pro X model. I consider them worth the money. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil

The only advice I have to offer is on targets. I get downloadable targets. Print them on standard paper. If I’m taking my wife, I’ll print them at my dad’s house on 11x17 paper. Most affordable targets I have found yet. The “lol” thread

Midway has good range bags with a wide variety of prices. And I get IPSC targets from Midway in boxes of 25 when they go on sale. If you want cheap targets, then buy cheap paper plates and tape them to the cardboard. Or draw on the cardboard with a Sharpie and make your own. I did this when I was too broke to buy ready made targets. Cheap bright orange duct tape makes a great aiming point, too. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

paper plates and cheap orange paint make the cheapest of targets. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Yep, cheapest paper plates sold by the hundreds and a can of spray paint. Get a good hand stapler and you have targets for basically nothing. I used to cut the bottom out of a red solo cup to make perfect circles but quickly realized I didn’t need to. My son would line up dozens of plates on the lawn and I would walk down the row spraying dots.

Range bags are a personal choice . Only you know how much you are going to tote and how much you want to spend . I've bought targets off of Ebay and Amazon . Right now I'm using paper plates from Dollar General and a red Sharpie . Again , it's a personal choice .

Midway has NRA official 50' pistol targets $11.99/100. Nice heavy paper, ink that doesn't run, no paint stink/mess and store in a compact stack. With each target roughly 1/2 the cost of a single round of 9mm ammunition, this is not really a place where a lot of money can be saved by printing, painting, etc.

100 paper plates will cost you about $5 at Dollar General . Everybody has a Sharpie in the kitchen drawer . Not as cool as an official target , but ...

Don’t do the sharpie. That is how I started. Pain in the ass. Go to your garage and basically use any can of spray paint you have. Waaaaay faster and easier than sharpie.

When I was in the CG they issued me a Galati range bag, when it dies 20 years later I replaced it with the Midway range bag. It was the same bag with just a little more room. Unless you want to shoot B29 targets, paper plates and spray paint is the cheapest. I made a template and sprayed circles onto the plates. Now I just print targets on a sheet of paper and it’s free to me. WRT ear pro, I have a set of midway Mickey Mouse ears and I have custom molded silicone inserts on a leash I had made for me. The inserts block 34db and with the muffs over them they cut a lot of noise. But I can’t shoulder a rifle or shotgun with them, so I use only the inserts.
