I am no computer expert, but sometime I think I am (mostly in front of the wife who is really lost). When I open any web browser, the initial page takes forever to load while subsequent pages are quickly loaded. I suspect this has to do with my crappy service provider, but believe it might be due to DNS server access. I <think> I am using Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) but am not certain. Its been a long time since I fooled with the DNS setting. Any advice as to how to remedy? What is your home page? Try making your homepage blank and see if you have the same problem. Other ideas: Do you load a bunch of tabs when you open the browser? If so it could be any number of websites, memory issues, processor issues... Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed. Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists. Change from Google DNS to Cloudflare. There are 3 levels and all of them are faster. 1.1.1.1 is all permissive 1.1.1.2 filters malware 1.1.1.3 filters malware and adult sites You can also add the secondaries 1.0.0.1 1.0.0.2 1.0.0.3

Install Brave. do not let it "import" anything. See if things load faster. (I have used Brave for over a year, and have found it far better experience than anything else. But I really liked "Dogpile" back in the internet of the last century...) A lot of this "delayed fetching" is a result of the copious amount of tracking, targeted ads and whatnot being processed each time you touch anything on a page, load a new page, or refresh, return to almost any page. The issue can be like an onion, many layers, and many ways to deal with it. The "Brave" option, will tell you pretty quickly, if the cause is with your current browser or something else, like DNS. (Won't hurt to try the DNS in any case) If the browser change proves to help, then you can delete all the cached settings and data, but if you have and rely on such for passwords, sites and "autofill" type data, you will need to extract that information so that you can re-create it. (it gets a bit complex on methods to do that, depending on browser used) "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

Let me add to all the plug and pray diagnoses. In addition to changing DNS Servers, changing browsers or changing the home page. Two other areas are clearing DNS cache: ipconfig /flush dns and ...clearing browser cache (delete in browser). Additionally it could just be a network issue with the ISP that could go away. Also there is a hardware based issue when the packet size is too large for the router to process and the packet is fragmented and a similar result to the browser sluggishness will exist. It is a bit more complicated and requires a MTU adjustment. Some details I found here but there is plenty or documentation out there: https://www.linksys.com/us/sup...le?articleNum=134914

I don't know if it's even still a thing, but I used to see that problem a lot when people had "automatically detect proxy settings" turned on.

Thanks all. The browser is Brave and perhaps it requires some additional tuning. Opening a single tab which is Newsmax though it will happen with any other preliminary web address when the browser is first opened. I will work thru the suggestions and try to make it better. thanks again. When you open a web browser, the computer has to load the web browser program, then anything configured (plug-ins, etc), then your start page. When you open any subsequent page, it just has to open the page. If your computer is memory limited, it may be doing a lot of swapping. If you have a lot of plug-ins, etc configured, that all takes time to load. Changing your start page (or making it null if that is an option) can eliminate that variable. The more you can isolate things, the easier it is to figure out what is causing the delay.
