The Ford SuperVan Returns as an EV Supercar Shaped Like A Minivan



he Ford SuperVan has returned as a fully-electric performance van making close to 2,000 horsepower. The Ford Pro Electric SuperVan is the latest in the Supervan series that, historically, has drawn from Ford’s motorsport efforts to create unique and radical vans with race car performance. In 2022, that performance is all about EVs, which is why Ford put four electric motors in the latest SuperVan to make it rip on track, going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under two seconds. Yes, I believe this is the respect minivans deserve.

The Electric SuperVan is debuting at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it’ll take on the hillclimb with Romain Dumas behind the wheel. Goodwood takes place in the UK, where the Ford E-Transit Custom recently debuted. That’s the electric cargo van Ford refuses to sell in the U.S., possibly because it could end up eating the F-150 Lightning’s lunch.

I would like to see it go up Pikes Peak since the altitude wouldn't affect it.

The one thing I'm hoping we get when all these EV's start showing up is some new options for design. I couldn't be more bored with trucks and SUV's.

We have an Odyssey too and it’s been great. The automatic sliding doors are a game changer with little kids, and I love how it feels like I’m driving a big car and not a truck. My brother-in-law‘s Toyota Sienna felt like driving a truck in comparison.

I am on my second Sienna. Love it. IMHO, the mini van is the most versatile vehicle out there. I can haul up to eight people if need be or anything else. The cargo capacity approached that of a much larger vehicle yet it handles like a car. I recently replaced all the interior doors in my home. I picked them up at the store and hauled all five home. At the same time. I just returned from a little vacation and averaged 26.1 mpg and that was while driving with the ac on and at speeds anywhere from 70-79. I will probably always have a mini van. They just can't be beat IMO.

I respect the Minivan for what it can do, but I despise they way they set them up in terms of braking and handling. Minivan chassis were they worst victims of platform sharing cost control IMO.

That said, putting 2000hp on the ground with what looks like 19" or 20" wheels and tires is a real hard thing to do, even with all four wheels contributing. Plus, turning the last row of seats into an aero device is pretty funny!
