Anyone Doing Wreaths Across America This Year?
I saw something at work about it and signed up along with my two sons to help unpack, set up and lay wreaths at Valley Forge National Park on December 13th.

Had done it years ago there at VF in 2008 or 2009 and it was great to be able to honor the estimated 2,000-3,000 Continental Army Soldiers that died there in the winter of 1777-1778 not from British bayonets or bullets but from starvation, disease and cold.

Here's a pic I found online of the event:

Here is the link where you can search for locations and sign up:

Our local cemetery is doing it for the 1st time. I believe there are about 700 veterans buried there. I volunteered to help with this.

My mom’s DAR chapter does a couple of older and smaller cemeteries.

One of our company trucks is hauling one of the loads of wreaths out of Maine down to a terminal in Mississippi to be distributed. This will be the fourth year that we’ve done this.

For several years now. My dad and uncles, all WWII vets, are buried in Catholic cemeteries, so I can’t honor them, but my wife’s dad is a Korean War vet and he and my MIL are buried in National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. I designate one wreath to be placed on their grave, and buy a couple more to help in the effort there.

The cost is just $17/wreath, so it’s very reasonable to make this small gesture. If there’s a veteran’s cemetery in your town that family members are buried in (or even if you have no family there) you can place wreaths on graves yourself.

My Civil Air Patrol squadron is the WAA location manager for our cemetery with something like 5,000 veterans graves. We run the show and ceremony. We are also a wreaths sponsorship group and receive $5 for every wreath purchased in our name.

There is:

- receiving the delivery of wreaths for our cemetery, about a week before. Unloading from their truck and putting them in ours and transporting to a safe location. Cannot leave them sit out at the cemetery for a week.

- marking the veterans graves the week before so wreaths get placed on the correct graves

- staging the boxes of wreaths around the cemetery in advance of the ceremony and wreath laying

- conducting the ceremony and passing out and laying the wreaths

- picking up and disposing of the wreaths in January

The number wreaths all depends on purchases.

I have helped lay the wreaths the last two years, planning on volunteering again this year.
