Space Force unveils logo, ‘Semper Supra’ motto

The Space Force motto “Semper Supra” means “always above.”

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Space Force revealed its new logo and motto as the service seeks to build branding and cultural identity.

The black-and-silver service logo unveiled July 22 has the delta wing as its central element that is also found in the Space Force seal and flag. There is a “Space Force” horizontally shaped logo and a USSF vertical logo.

The Space Force motto “Semper Supra” means “always above.” It represents the service’s role in establishing, maintaining and preserving U.S. freedom of operations in the ultimate high ground, a Space Force spokesman said.

The logo was designed by the Department of the Air Force’s advertising agency GSD&M.

The colors black and silver represent the environmental boundary between Earth and outer space.
The silver outer border of the delta signifies defense and protection from threats in the space domain.
The black area inside embodies the vast darkness of deep space.
Inside the delta, the two spires represent the action of a rocket launching into the outer atmosphere.
The four beveled elements symbolize the joint armed forces supporting the space mission: Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines.
In the center of the delta is the Polaris star meant to symbolize the guiding light.

Delta symbol
Following the unveiling in January of the official Space Force seal with the delta wing delta, the service pushed back on criticism that it looked like a Star Trek Starfleet knockoff. Space Force officials pointed out that the delta symbol was used in the 1940s by the U.S. Army Air Forces and was used in early Air Force space organization emblems as early as 1961 and is symbolic of the heritage of military space organizations.

A spokesman said the delta wing signifies the U.S. Space Force’s upward trajectory into space, represents the launch vehicles that send satellites into orbit, and evokes change and innovation.

I won't be happy until they can tap on their Space Force delta logo badges and talk to each other.

Heck. If I was still in the USAF, or young enough to join, I would have been doing everything to get into the Space Force.

Sure, a lot of "cheesyness" to go around, because that is what a lot of the nonner/posers do, while "sortie producing mother fuckers" are busy makin' it happen.

When the "glamor" washes off, there will still be an active mission and new things to learn, do and problems to work and solve.

And that shit is what makes it worth the journey.

I can't wait for the Colonial Marines to be created and branch off as a part of the Space Force. That's what I'm waiting for!

Devil's pontiac.

Back in my (not space) cadet days I had a buddy who was obsessed with space. He ended up going to the USAF Academy and did a double major in astrophysics and I forget what else, and entered space command. I've lost track of him over the years, but he was one of the most motivated, intelligent guys I ever knew. I had a lot of respect for him, his drive, and his goals.

It's not remotely close to an exaggeration to say that the majority of people on the planet right now benefit daily from the work of Space Command and now by evolution, Space Force (can't say the name with a straight face, though...and when I do, it echoes five times and invariably comes back with "beam me up, scotty). Not just GPS, though that's probably the most visible project.

It's fun to poke fun, but I know that had I gone that route, I'd have been lucky to push a broom in space command. But, given the mission, I'd have been happy to do it.

There's no way that logo wasn't ripped off from Star Trek, though. No way.

The "Guardians" thing goes back decades. I can't recall which unit, but one of the Space Command units/Wings/whatevers had as a motto "Guardians of the High Frontier."

Whatever Space Force does will be mocked and ridiculed. I spent over two decades in Space Ops, and I have to admit we were weird and geeky. But, it will get tiring very quickly to see every single decision ridiculed and mocked. New flag, new symbol, new motto. . . Wait until they come out with a song, a new uniform, new rank system, etc. It is inevitable, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Just imagine being that O-2 or O-3 straight out of the academy with a master's in Astrophysics.

Seven year flag officer that kid will be. Wink
