I have H&I tv on this morning as background noise as I'm reading the news on the laptop. They go to commercial break during Colt.45 and instead of a commercial it's a beautiful full rendition of the Star Spangled Banner! This was at 4:15 this morning. Sung by an attractive young black performer with a beautiful voice with a full orchestra. When did this start? I remember on air stations signing off at night with the Star Spangled Banner but that was years ago. I usually have H&I on in the morning but not always this early but this is the first time I have seen this. A welcome surprise at any rate.

It was a Saturday morning ritual for any kid watching cartoons in the 70s. I'd sit and wait for the test pattern to be replaced by the American Flag and the Star Spangled Banner. Immediately following would be a reading of High Flight by William Conrad with a T-38 surfing through the clouds. What a magnificent way for a kid to start the day.

I seem to remember a version of this from the early sixties . I don't remember who did the reading of High Flight, But I do remember that beautiful F-104 Starfighter flying through the sky!

I've always been partial to the one with the F-16 that was widely used in the 80's.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

Never left in these parts. The radio has a unique spin. They play the Star Spangled Banner and then a random college fight song. Big Grin

Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club!
