Georgia has some good property and income tax advantages in retirement. The property tax deduction varies by county. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I see you're from close to the coast. If you think you might miss the ocean, would getting a place near the ocean suit you? Just a thought. I picked SC because it's a very tax favorable state as well as conservative. And being an ocean lover, I picked a place near the beach.

How is the snake situation in either Georgia or South Carolina? I think there is some problem with pythons and gators in Florida. A friend in Florida walks his cats on a leash to avoid them becoming snake food. I think the snakes are moving north.

Thank you Very little ![]() |

Union county(Blairsville and Suches) is 47% national forest. We have more trails than you could ever finish and miles of trout streams and Lake Nottely. It is a second ammendment sanctuary county. We have a hospital, a large park with miles of walking trails, a senior center, dog park and a new outdoor gun range in the national forest which is under construction and projected to be open this fall. We have a 2300 sf log home on 20 acres and our total property and school taxes last year were about $1700. The county is about 70% republican. Come on down. Sourdough, I did your move in reverse. Moved from Salem, WI to Senoia, GA..but I am near Rte 54 & Gordon Rd. Sure you know where that is. Where are you in WI? To OP, you will love it here. We do. North Georgia is more like Tennessee in term of more mountains and woodsy. South of Atlanta is more rural…but more pastures for horses and such. South Georgia is like North Florida…farm country. You should look at Peachtree City. Really a perfect community for retiree. Plenty to do and close enough to metro…but far enough to be safe.

Since you asked, I lived off ‘Lower Fayetteville RD’, ‘Delta Ct’ to be exact, between Peachtree City and Newman, GA. It was the East edge of Coweta, county. I was only there two years, quickest sale ever on a house, one day. I have been military & airline, so lived in a handful of places. Most of my family & relatives are in the upper Midwest, I can handle Winter. GA was fine, moved for the job. I’m near Lake Geneva now.
