Good afternoon, Borg Collective, I have indoor lighting on the ceiling (flush mount fixtures) that have some burned out bulbs. Gotta give credit...some of those bulbs are the original bulbs from when I moved here in 2008. To that end, each fixture has a frosted half globe that covers the dual light sockets...globes rotate/screw into the base unit attached to the ceiling. I've replaced a few bulbs over the years using standard incandescent bulbs, but I'm wondering if going LED for the replacements is a wise choice. These fixtures, BTW, are down the hall (3), laundry room (1), and guest bath (1). Fixture is very similar to the one pictured below. What do y'all recommend for bulb replacement? Currently, each fixture houses two (2) 60w standard incandescent bulbs. Thanks!! "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. I've been putting CREE LED replacement bulbs in fixtures very similar to that. "America is at that awkward stage. I have some in my closet, but don't mind going LED if it will provide better lighting. "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Yeah. Though, last time, I screwed-up and ordered "daylight" or something, and they're kinda harsh. Haven't figured out what I'll do with 'em yet. "America is at that awkward stage. Whether they're better is debatable, but they will use less electricity...And while they will cost ten times as much as the incandescent bulbs, they won't last ten times as long! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! I replaced a fixture in Dad's closet with one that has an integrated LED in it. Equivalent of 120-watt brightness. As a bonus, the closet is across from his bathroom, and has an accordion door. We use it as a night light for when he has to get up at night. I've really liked the LEDs I've put in to day. I do take the time to find some that are a warmer color temp in the 2700-3000K range. I am NOT a fan of the bright pure white or daylight ones. At all. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

I've been switching the entire house to LED over the last year. Finding the color temperature you like is very important. After that, making sure that future bulbs you buy are also the same color temperature. Multiple lamps with different color temps looks janky to me. My opinion. 3200*K = what incandescent bulbs look like, a warm light. 4100*K = cool daylight. Kinda blue-ish, but still some warmth to it. 5000*K = bright, albeit a smidge cool, white light.

Our whole house is LED, updated by the prior owners. No screw-in socket to change the bulbs, mostly can lights. Wife wants a warmer tone, as ours are nearly clinical white. Not looking forward to the cost of replacing whole units. May see if they're dimmable & if a dimmer switch takes some of the harshness off the lights. The Enemy's gate is down.

I've got a table lamp in the living room that takes a 3-way bulb. The previous bulb burned out and I replaced it with an LED 3-way. I also have an indoor OTA TV antenna. I discovered that the new LED bulb in the lamp was emitting some kind of RF that completely messed up the TV signal. Turn the lamp off and the TV clears right up. I went to replace the LED 3-way with an incandescent one, but couldn't find any around town. I finally found them on Amazon and bought enough to keep that lamp running for about 10 years.

Have heard similar with putting LED bulbs in garage door openers. Had no issues with the Marantec units in our old house, though. And, we had an LED nightlight plugged in the extra ceiling outlet next to each opener [3]. The Enemy's gate is down.

I choose to replace the fixture opposed to buying bulbs. Much easier to get variable color temps and less of a dome. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

VNM has it right and his entire post bears repeating. For some reason different LED color temps tend to really mess with colors, especially light green* walls which Mrs. 'Hook did in a few rooms. It took me a few boxes of different LED colors to find the right tone, but 3600K, to our eyes, seems to be the best balance throughout the house. * Sherwin Williams Spinach White (SW 6434) "The Truth, when first uttered, is always considered heresy."

I had been buying 2700 Kelvin CREE bulbs. Then: I hated 5000k as it's harsh. I've landed on 3000k and have been buying these EcoSmart 60 watt replacment Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity DISCLAIMER: These are the author's own personal views and do not represent the views of the author's employer.

You might want to check your existing lights power converter. A lot of the newer recessed LEDs come standard with a switch to change color temp. Might be as easy as crawling around attic or popping off a light and flipping a switch. ...that I will support and defend...

I like the Home Depot "Daylight" LED color temp bulbs best for indoors. Find that the incandescent bulbs that are slow to burn out look orange by comparison in other rooms.
