Any of you fine SC folks know of a decent place to stay down there. Two bedrooms preferred, kitchen required. Wife definitely wants ocean front. We’re only visiting daughter #2 over a weekend in October, arriving the 14th and leaving the 17th.

Any ideas for us?

Are your staying in the city of Myrtle itself? I will never stay in Surfside again. The Baywatch police hassled us about having two tents next to each other. We had to move them 6ft apart. After moving them one blew over and bent the leg.

We usually stay in Murrels Innlet but those tend to be more houses. I would avoid the city of Myrtle itself as crime is getting bad. A friend who works for a Sheriff Office in the county south of Myrtle says even they get offered overtime to work in the city.

North Myrtle or Cherry Grove would be my choice if staying in a condo.

For over 30 years my family went to Myrtle Beach ever year. We always stayed in the Carribean but for the last few years we stayed in North Myrtle Beach.

I thought the hotels were nicer, a little quieter plus the crowds tended to be older.

Before I posted I researched the pricing of the hotel, and the could not believe the pages of negatives review some as recent as a few days ago.

It is funny that gpbst3 posted a negative review regarding Surfside PD. I was offered a position with them and when I was set to begin they withdrew the offer. Even though I am pissed i am not getting offers to go back to LE, that is one dept I am not sorry about.

We made the mistake of going one Easter when we thought, Murrells Inlet would be deserted.
We had a great time and the place we stayed was near Brookgreen gardens.

Once you've got a sense for pricing for what you want, check out Holden Beach (I think around 40 min North). It may have cheaper pricing. Hobbs Realty is who we use. They are reputable. We've had very good luck wit them.

I did leave out some information. Daughter #2 lives and works in Myrtle Beach proper. Driving to and from any longer distance at that time of year can be a deal breaker.

Where’s the ice cream man, I’ll stop him while he’s passin’ by.

My wife was checking into North Myrtle and Murrel Inlet (?).

We don’t need amenities like indoor pools or goofy things like that.

We always stay here but we go in the spring and summer with kids so their water parks under the towers are great in case we get weather that keeps us from going out to the beach.
It is a little dated one would say but considering the price is quite reasonable we continue to go back.
It is also in a fairly easy location to get in and out of and to most places in a timely fashion. We also do 2 bedrooms and a kitchen. And it is right around the corner from a place that sells Aglifter’s Ice Cream and it is fantastic!!!

Though do not be fooled their concierges is not your typical concierge. They tell you places to go and then offer coupons or gift cards.
Turns out it is one of those time share hucksters!! So we learned that mistake an hour and a half of nonsense but we got over $500 in dinner gift cards and attraction tickets.

Hey, that looks pretty nice. I will send it to the wife and daughter and see what they think of it. Thank you.

Ocean Isle Beach which is the next barrier island north of Holden is very nice, too - at least it was for a golf trip there in 2005 Wink

Aglifter's place is called the Republic of Ice Cream. He has lots of locations and the ice cream looks good. I used to work in a place like this during my youth. Handmade ice cream etc. Hopefully he will see your post. BTW his employee wages look pretty good in case the lawn business slows down.

Anywhere from Lake Arrowhead road north is my preference
Myrtle proper is pretty much Mogadishu on the Atlantic these days
We usually stay in Kingston Plantation or the t hotel beside it , Hilton maybe …. I forget as it’s been a while

Graduated HS down there in the 80s, it was a lot different

I quit school in elementary because of recess.......too many games

We are at the Kingston plantation right now. It is through Hilton. 4 bedroom condos on the ocean are not cheap.

What really pisses me off is they won’t let the kids toss a ball or football in the pool. No toys in the pool either. Can’t jump in. I told my kids do what ever you want with what we paid. Nothing they can do. Different management company not with Hilton.

This is sad but I have fond memories of the Dayton house. Not expensive in myrtle. Nice pools. Was not a bad place to stay for me. Been about 5 years since we were there.

I’ll ask around for places to stay. I’d definitely suggest North Myrtle, but all of MB is pretty laid back in October.

Further north in Myrtle Beach, 50+ Ave, is also fine, east of Kings Highway.

(Not so aware of the hotels, but the neighborhoods are OK-they are OK west of 17 but some halfway house/couple dodgy apartment complexes cause issues around 62nd Ave N))

Sorry about being closed on Christmas Eve with a tornado warning

Big Grin

Pawleys and Murrels Inlet and Ocean Isle are all lovely, but a bit of a drive from Myrtle.
