You're going to feel a little pressure... |
My dog's trainer was a K9 handler, in the Air Force. He's out but his K9 is still in and about to retire. The dog is old and has medical problems but he fought hard for the right to give him a home, on retirement. He should be coming home in a couple of months. Good stuff. Bruce "The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams “It is just as difficult and dangerous to try to free a people that wants to remain servile as it is to try to enslave a people that wants to remain free." -Niccolo Machiavelli The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. -Mencken

My old PD had some kind of problem with letting the handler receive the dog...it think it was some rule/law they couldn’t give away city property...so the handlers would buy the dog, many times for a dollar. One handler who was embroiled in court case with the department made the dog part of the settlement and had amortized it’s value for the remainder years the dog was supposed to work....he won the case and was awarded the dog and a 100k. A good friend from high school started this foundation after working with MWDs and police K9s: Project K9 Hero Their mission is to provide support for retired working dogs, up to and including their trip across the bridge. I’ve known this guy since we were 14, and this is what he eats, sleeps, and breathes, 24/7.

My wife's K9 parter retired to live with us. He had already lived with us during his working life. He was always gentle at home and tolerant of the other dogs (all sighthounds). In retirement, he rested in front of the fireplace, and when approached by a sighthound would just give his "ugly" look, lifting one lip as a warning, like "leave me alone". There was never any problem and he lived out his days in peace. When he passed, he was memorialized in the Washington Post (a questionable honor), for his role working the Pentagon crime scene for two weeks following 9/11, and other notable local cases (Chandra Levy, e.g.). How timely. I just received this email from a Veterinarian this morning that I often purchase cat food and treats from online.. How are you and your kitty, william? I ask because, honestly, it’s been a tough year for all of us. I’ve been having trouble getting into the “holiday spirit” myself this year. But I just heard some fantastic, joyful news, and I think you’re going to love it. Let me explain... Over the past two years, Dr. Marty Pets has been proud to partner with Freedom Service Dogs. This amazing non-profit organization helps train rescue dogs to be service animals for people in need. So not only do the dogs find forever homes — but their new parents get the life-changing support they need (along with a new best friend.) And it’s all thanks to YOU! See, every purchase you make with Dr. Marty Pets supports the work that Freedom Service Dogs does, year round. So because of your commitment to your cat’s health and wellness… We were able to help unite a number of new Freedom Service Dog “matches” in 2020. Like this dynamic duo, Jonathan and Peloton: "Photo not displayed" When Jonathan first applied for a canine companion, he thought he wanted a male dog — then he met Peloton. Who could resist that sweet doggie face? Peloton retrieves dropped objects, opens doors, and helps Jonathan excel in his studies. (They really make a great team!) And they’re not the only ones… Eric and Goose have been flying high together since they graduated from their Freedom Service Dogs training this fall. These two are ready for any challenge or new adventures that come their way: "Photo not displayed" Eric’s a retired Air Force Crew Chief... and he’s so happy to have a canine wingman. Goose is a “brace and balance dog” and he helps Eric feel safe and secure in any situation. He also loves going on Jeep rides with Eric and feeling the wind in his “poodle puff.” I am absolutely thrilled Dr. Marty Pets could help these inspiring doggie heroes and their wonderful new parents. I can’t wait to see next year’s matches! And once again, we couldn’t do it without you. Your commitment to your cat’s health doesn’t just help keep THEM happy… It also helps fund Freedom Service Dogs — so others can experience the joy of a loving, supportive pet. I hope this news (along with these cute pup pictures) brings a smile to your face, william. What’s more, I hope these stories remind you of a special day, not so long ago, when you found YOUR feline furry best friend … And all the love you now share. To you and your best friend, Dr. Marty I wished the photos would've posted also, as they were awesome and touching. Regards, Will G.
