Cruising the Highway to Hell |
My wife has a 20 CRV with about 120K on it. Nothing but reliable “Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves.” ― Ronald Reagan Retired old fart

Wife purchased a 2017 new, nothing but trouble. Dealer was graceful and held it for weeks on two occasions, gave us a loaner; could not solve the limp mode and complete cycle of warnings. Car was not reliable. It is gone. Will never buy another.

In 2017 they started with the 1.5 liter engine, on some models. That engine, newly developed had serious problems.

The wife has a 2017 CR--V, it's the Touring 1.5 liter turbo, AWD. She loves that car, gets around 32 mpg, the CVT is reliabe and never had any issues with that 1.5 engine. The AWD always works as it should. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

First off, I’ll say that, in my experience, Honda is a great car manufacturing company. They pay attention to interior details and longevity of the mechanics. I have a 2001 Accord with 398,000 miles and it drives as good as when I purchased it new. That led me to other Hondas until 2018 when I bought a 2018 CRV. It’s really comfortable to drive. The safety features have helped me several times to avoid accidents. It gets 34 miles per gallon. There is a recall on the fuel pump but so far no problem as I wait for the part to arrive at my dealership/service center ( awesome mechanics). I just purchased a second CRV made in 2016. It is just as comfortable without the bells and whistles. 31 MPH highway. I trust Honda. If there is a problem, they make it right. My son has a Ridgeline and loves it . I’ve owned a Civic and it was also a fantastic little car. Can’t go wrong with the CRV. I have been warned by a Honda Mechanic that the new Accords have trouble with the transmissions. I have no experience with that.

I’ve owned two FWD Variants and put over 125,000 miles on each. One went through three alternators in the span of that mileage and had the CV axle shafts replaced around 90,000 miles. The second had the CV axle shafts replaced about 110,000 miles. Aside from that, a very good vehicle. ______________________________________________ Life is short. Wife has a 2014 with just over 200K relatively trouble-free miles. Will likely replace it at some point with another CR-V. suaviter in modo, fortiter in re

I've got a 2016 CRV that just went over 76K with zero problems. Well, we did replace the tires. FWIW, I follow the Honda schedule for maintenance; oil change at 5K and other items as recommended.

wife's 09 had 187K when we sold it, no issues Wife's Sister bought a 10, loved it, and then got rid of it for a 2019, loves it wife's Aunt bought a 2021, loves it, only complaint I have heard, on the older models (like the wifes 09) is they rode rough, and in harrd suspension, but selective tires (good years) on the wifes solved that mostly https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

If you are buying used be aware that there is many rebuilt wrecks out there, they are a popular vehicle with very good resale value are worth repairing, do a proper inspection and a Carfax report, or some other form of history. “Let us dare to read, think, speak and write.” John Adams

What vintage are you looking at? My son just bought an ‘05 Friday. He was stuck on the second generation. Apparently the card table is very important to him. They’re great and solid cars, but at least that generation has known issues with the AC compressors blowing up and polluting much of the system resulting in a very expensive repair (or no AC). He was looking at ‘04-‘06 as supposedly the later ones are less prone to the problem. If you’re looking a later generations it may no longer be an issue.

Partial dichotomy |
^^^ The main reason I traded in my 2006 on a 2014 was that the AC shit the bed. It had over 200,000 miles on it. And the only reason I got the 2020 when I did, was because the 2014 got totaled. It had over 170,000 miles.

Some things in my Honda experience: 1. keep those oil change intervals with what the manual tells you, I keep mine at 5,000 miles. Seems the GDI is hard on motor oil. 2. I believe it's 30k changes (drain and fill) on the CVT fluid, if you want it to last, definitely keep it at this. Most recommend the Honda fluid but I've used Amsoil without any issue. I have never taken a chance of not changing at 30k. 3. Honda has had issues with fuel pumps (Toyota did, too) and there's actually TSP to have certain years/models come in to replace the pump. 4. Honda AC units can go bad, there are TSPs for that too. Mine stopped blowing cold air, I recharged it and it's been working ever since. _____________

My wife just bought a 2024 CRV. This is her 4fh CRV and she won't own any other vehicle. We bought one the first year they came out and she had it 14 years and put over 200,000 miles on it. Our friend who bought it from us is still driving it.

Reviews I've read say the hybrid (called by Honda "Sport") versions are the way to go if you can afford it. Interesting: the ICE engine primarily functions as a generator for the electric motors driving the wheels. I'm not even sure it has a transmission. Wife and I drove a CR-V in 2017-18 before I bought my accord 2.0 Touring. Neither of us liked driving the CR-V, I preferred driving the Mazda CX-5, but as I said ended up with an Accord. I really like the style of the new CR-V, it looks like a BMW--better than the new BMW's. We have noted that visibility from the Subaru Forester is superior. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"
