Figure it is a one time thing what roll of plastic sheeting would be best? Going to be for kids from 3-12 so a pretty good size range.
Figure a tub of dish soap and a sprinkler will suffice.

$350 for a 6 hour rental of one of those big water slides might be an option too.

Visqueen makes rolls of thick plastic.

We used to sell it back in the day at the lumber yard I worked at.

Maybe just buy a Slip n Slide from Walmart or Amazon, probably costs the same as a roll of heavy duty plastic sheeting. How old are the kids? Maybe 5 years ago, a neighbor had one on their front lawn for a bunch of pre-school kids and looks like they had a lot of fun. It was placed on a slightly sloped part of the grass.

Grab a couple of these and split the kids up by age/aggressiveness so no one gets hurt. Less than $100 all in.

Used billboard vinyl, and you can use it more than once or for something else. One of my customers has an entire hillside water slide made from this.

Billboard vinyl available here:

They also have lots of good things. Get on the mailing list. You will be surprised at what you may find, lol. Not affiliated with them in any way other than I get their mailings.
Surprised the cognoscenti here haven't mentioned them before.

Get 6 mil plastic sheeting, double it over, lay it out, pin it down, spray with water, put up sign "bikini clad females, this way."

Profit.

Don't forget the "free baby oil provided" signs! And don't forget to post the event details to SF. Do I need to include the "how to post pictures on SF" link?

My uncle builds a huge one every year for a large family reunion out of thick opaque plastic sheeting and hay bales as the bumpers, it would actually run downhill and was crazy fast.

Never made a slip and slide, but the black colored 3-4 mil plastic sheeting is slippery when dry. Super slick when wet.

It's also hot as hell, better to use white or opaque.

We did this for our daughters about 20 or so years ago. Two layers of 4 or 6 mil poly and it was good for the afternoon with about 10 or 12 little girls. Just be careful if you try to stake it down. We used bent tent spikes; with all the water coming down the slide and the movement, they started working their way out of the softening ground and might have caused someone to get hurt if we hadn't caught it in time.
