LOL I know

My thought....sort of....is it gives me a chance to see if something like this will actually work for what I need. If it blows up on me in a couple weeks, I can take it back and get a California Air instead

I have a California Air Products 1 gal compressor. Very quiet, just purrs. I have had the compressor for two years no issues. It sits under my reloading bench. Also used for airbrush.
I just went on their site and the smallest compressor was 2 gal. Link below:

My father has one of these and I am always amazed at how quiet it is. If you are in a close community I would encourage you to consider The CAP compressors. Always good to be neighborly.

Basically the same needs as you, fill the tires, blow off stuff, etc...
The compressor is still running strong.
I have a 25 or 33 gallon Craftsman bought about 2007. It had been running great until the over-pressure tube separated. The great thing I found out - Sears doesn't make them, a better company (one with compressor experience) does. Makes parts easy to find once you figure out the OEM of the compressor.
