I've got a ratty old Toshiba that's probably eight or so years old, it's my in house Laptop as I don't use my Apple Air much around here due to the grandsons (4 & 5) and they tend to be little hooligans. This thing went with me on the road when I was selling GM Performance Parts, outside when I'm working on something and need a laptop handy, something that if it gets mortally wounded no big deal.

Well, tonight I sat it on the couch and plugged it in the wall, battery life is pretty low, not sure if it's worth buying a new battery. Anyhow, the dog jumped on the couch, knocked it off to the floor landing on the power cord plug that goes into the laptop.

Well, the power plug inside would not plug into the cord, I can see some damage to the case. Now I'm figuring that it's off to the computer shop in town, a hundred dollar bill to fix it.

Wait a minute! YouTube! Yep, guy has a video about replacing a bad charger jack! Took the laptop apart, snapped the jack back into place, and here I am!

Patting myself on the back!

Toshibas are strong workhorses.

Still running a couple of Vista class Satellite machines from 2007(?). Fixed them a couple of times and replaced drowned kb but the mobos kept going.

An SSD drive and a slightly tweaked W7 will keep mine around for the next few years unless lightning trikes them.

Keep an eye for the MB batteries. Must did deep to replace them if they’re like mine, the soldering type.

Good on you shovelhead! I have an 8yr old 15" MacBook Pro that though long in the tooth, ran exceptional. The only issue the last few years was a battery swelling issue that interfered with the use of the trackpad and more recently the keyboard typing. The swelling put increased upwards pressure on the trackpad and keys, in addition to some increasing heat. So with my concerns of possible fire hazards from batteries it was in my best interest to shelve it. I am considering purchasing a battery kit from iFixit and give it a go but unforeseen damage from the trackpad to keyboard may be present.

So, I'll likely give it a go but went to the smaller 13" MacBook M1 machine to bridge the gap.
