This is the guy they defamed who lost his job, clearance, the works.

Compensatory damages
$4M for lost wages.
$1M pain and suffering.

Currently deliberating the PUNITIVE penalty!!!!!! I'm hoping for $995M.

A story about the background.

quote:
Yahoo.com

CNN is being sued for defamation by Zachary Young, a security consultant living in Vienna who has worked for the CIA. Young was included in a report by CNN's chief security correspondent, Alex Marquardt, on how Afghans, desperate to escape Taliban forces after the U.S. exit, were charged exorbitant fees for help in getting out.

Young, who advertised his evacuation services on LinkedIn, has said he only took on clients with corporate sponsors. He extracted 22 employees for Bloomberg and Audible from Afghanistan. He said he never took money directly from Afghans, who CNN said in the piece were being exploited as they feared retribution from the Taliban for aiding American forces.

Young was seeking $14,500 for getting people out of the country at the time. His services were described in the CNN segment alongside interviews with Afghans who spoke about efforts by people to escape, but they had no connection to Young.

His suit said his inclusion in the story, which used the term "black market" in an on-screen banner, implied that his activity was criminal, even though Marquardt's segment made no such charge. "Black market" was also used in the introduction of the report when it first ran on "The Lead With Jake Tapper," other CNN programs and the network's website and social media accounts.

The jury in the civil trial, heard in a Bay County, Fla., court, must determine whether CNN journalists acted with actual malice, which is defined as the publication of false information with reckless disregard of the truth. If CNN is found liable, Young can be awarded punitive damages.

Young claims the story destroyed his reputation and ability to earn a living — driving his annual income from $350,000 to zero — and caused severe emotional and psychological distress. Vel Freedman, an attorney for Young, described CNN as "peddling scandal for views and clicks" and asked the jurors to "send a message that news organizations must be held accountable."

ETA:

Yesterday CNN's lead counsel was admonished by the Judge to APOLOGIZE IN OPEN COURT for repeatedly calling Young a "liar" during the trial. The Judge ruled that the claims he lied were contradicted by the evidence submitted by CNN during discovery.

I think I know where we're headed here. Before we get there, I want to say something to you: Now, you know and I know that we can't tell you what to print - or what not to. We hope the press will act responsibly. But when you don't, there ain't a helluva lot anybody can do about it.

Man, Trump shows up back on the scene and the usual bullshit (that has nothing to do with Trump) doesn't fly anymore and the world appears saner.

I've noticed that since the election, CNN's many lies seems to have slowed way down. It's a nice trend, but I won't be inclined to believe them, the NY Times or the Washington Post (and bunches of other lying F's) anytime soon.

Yeah, and Zuckerberg and his ilk are all trying to kiss up to him now too. I'm hoping he doesn't forget how they all worked so hard against him for the last 6 years, and treats them accordingly.

Don’t just punish the CNN business. If this was intentional malice, someone should be held personally accountable. Deliberate actions call for deliberate punishment. Not some abstract corporate entity.

Hopefully it's a crippling, vengeful judgement. CNN should be ordered to devote a half hour of airtime to rehabilitating this guy's reputation.

Good for him. I wonder what skill set you need to be able to offer the services he did. Doesn’t sound like a typical travel agency.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Lol. CNN were idiots to go to war in Bay County. Like most of the panhandle they went about 75/25 for Trump and they would be hard pressed to find a jury that doesn’t despise CNN. I would also posit that everyone in that county has a personally served, had a family member or a close friend that served in the military and most were GWOT area vets.

CNN lawyers didn’t have a chance. And I’m here for it.

As Bongino says “cutesy time is over“ DJT broke it off in ABC and Steponallofus for millions and they settled as they knew the jury would destroy them. Hold these shitbags accountable. The only way they learn is being held personally and corporately financial liable. And make them publish a very public retraction and apology as part of any settlement.

Read Operation Pineapple Express by Lieutenant Colonel Scott Mann.

His led one of the most successful teams of current and former SF, active and former CIA Ground Branch guys, a few on-the-ground troops at HKIA, and civilians.

The only team I know did more was CIA’s evac of > 30k friendly Afghans out of HKIA right under the noses of everyone, including the USG and Taliban.

Per Foxnews.com, after a short period of testimony in the punitive penalty phase, CNN settled.

quote:
The settlement amount was not disclosed, but it came after an expert witness [plaintiff’s forensic accountant] suggested $150 million was a fair amount to punish CNN.

I bet it was to avoid discovery on their accounting practices.

If this doesn’t get Tapper fired and relegated to a low power AM radio station in southeastern Arizona, broadcasting in Spanish, nothing will.

Remember Richard Jewel?
Apparently the media learned nothing from that.
The REPORTERS should hold the brunt of the suit too.

The Atlanta Urunal-Constipation needed to be sued into insolvency.
Georgia courts are corrupt.

CNN didn't learn from Nick Sandmann either.

I’m really sick of punishments to companies being paid out by investors/customers. I want the people who made the decision to pursue the action appropriately punished. If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class.

CBS News is mulling settling a $10 billion lawsuit Trump slapped against the network for their alleged editing of a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris that made her seem more cogent and commanding than what she was during this segment in the election’s waning days. The vice president was a bumbling mess, and her actual answers were a word salad (via WSJ):

Settled for an undisclosed sum AFTER plaintiff's expert forensic accountant suggested, on the stand, a fair penalty was $150M.
