The three Iranian Fast Attack Craft speed towards HMS Dragon from the port side, threatening to weave between the Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer and the trio of British vessels she is escorting through the Strait of Hormuz.

Although dwarfed by the British ships – HMS Dragon’s twin gas-turbine generators alone produce enough energy to power a city the size of Leicester - the Iranian speed boats could still cause significant damage if they attack, not to mention spark an international incident.

I'd love to, but I pasted most of what I have access to. Here's the rest that I have...

"As they race over the water the Revolutionary Guards on board point film cameras towards the British to gauge their reaction. HMS Dragon’s Captain, Commander Mike Carter-Quinn, orders five deafening blasts..."

Royal Navy ship THREATENED by Iran's fast ATTACK boats in the Gulf

A ROYAL NAVY type 45 Destroyer was threatened by three Iranian fast attack boats while escorting a trio of British vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, sparking fears of an imminent international attack.

By MARTINA BET
HMS Dragon, which patrols the Eastern Mediterranean, was travelling through the Persian Gulf when Iran’s machine gun boats halted its course and demanded Dragon to remain 1000 yards clear of the port side.
The captain of the type 45 destroyer immediately ordered five blasts of the ship’s horn, which is the international warning sign.

The Officer of the Watch then radioed over to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards - the Span Navy - warning that its boats prevented the Destroyer from completing its journey.

The Span Navy replied: “For your information we are here to safeguard our national sovereignty and we are doing routine operations.”

The Iranian craft boats eventually moved aside, but if they hadn’t, the Royal Navy crew would have had to fire flares and warning shots, according to Commander Carter-Quinn.

He told The Telegraph: “You have to provide a robust response.

“The day you don’t take it seriously is the day you become unstuck.”

Lieutenant Commander Richard Attwater also noticed that the Royal Navy navigates through dangerous waters as tensions between Iran and the West.

Around a third of the world’s seaborne petroleum exports pass through the Strait of Hormuz – including the majority of Britain's liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from Qatar.

Iran has a noticeable sea mine capability, meaning the rest of the world has to pay close attention in case Iran decides to close the waterway.

As part of the international effort to deter the Iranians, The Royal Navy has a permanent presence in the Gulf at the HMS Jufair naval base in Bahrain – west of the Strait of Hormuz.

Mr Attwater told the newspaper: “The contest between Iran and Saudi Arabia provides the backdrop to everything out here

“ The work of destruction is quick, easy and exhilarating; the work of creation is slow, laborious and dull.

I'd save the ammo on that air horn and hire a couple of those Belgian F-16 mechanics.
They know how to pull the trigger.

Blow them out of the water. When they send more, blow them out of the water, but do it more quickly than before. There won't be any more attacks after that.

Sounds like a plan!

Thank goodness they didn't need to resort to 'flares and warning shots.' That would have been TEOTWAWKI. . . Eek

They blew their horn at them. Things are getting rough on the high seas, that's for sure.

in 1989, the boghammers came into the Straights of Hormuz to play one night while we were escorting tankers (I was on the USS IOWA).

we fired an 5" 38 cal illum round into space between us and them, while they were still a few miles out.

normal practice would be to put illum behind them, so they are silhouetted - but CO thought it would be sporting to let them see what they were heading towards. The turned tail, and headed home at warp speed.

5" 38 VT frag set for 10 meters above water surface air burst would do the job. Or leave it to the MARDET M2s and Mk19s if they get in too close.

But the ROE then and now did not include just opening fire, they'd have to shoot or get too close to the ship.

Like CCW, you'd have to have reasonable fear for life or property.

Sink 'em. They'll either get the message or run out of boats, crewmen, or both.

Are these those outboard powered speedboats with a machine gun in the bow and a rack of rockets?

Not that I would want to be attacked by anything, but they don't seem much of a threat to the British vessel.
