Cell phone service in Israel
My bride decided yesterday that she's leaving Saturday for 12 days in Israel with one of her friends. We have iphones with AT&T. Have any of those on the board used AT&T International service in Israel? Is there a better alternative? Thanks.

my son toured there 2 years ago and advises to keep a tight hold on your valuables due to pick pockets. His own cell phone was lifted from his rear pants pocket without him realizing it at first.

Thanks. I have already warned her about that. I told her to take only the cheap, shoddy jewelry I gave her. Wink

Just call AT&T and check out the rates. When I was over there I wanted to use my phone for email, text, etc. Just having one phone made it a lot less complicated, so I subscribed to AT&T International for 30 days. Cost about $30 extra dollars with my discount.

I use my AT&T work iPhone over there on an international plan. No problems.

AT+T has a international thing you can add to your current plan that is free everything for $10 a day. I'm pretty sure cell service in Israel is spot on.

I used to travel there at least twice a year for work. As stated above, you can turn international calling on at will with AT&T. Calls will still be expensive though. Better to use FaceTime or Skype while on the hotel wifi as a cheaper alternative.

It has been almost 2 years since I was last there, but Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem were fairly safe. IDF was required to carry at all times (as I recall), so tell her not to be shocked if she notices a lot of armed people both in uniform and in civies. That was what shocked me the first time over there.

It is a beautiful country and most Israeli's are very friendly.

Safe travels.

Verizon worked fine there three years ago. I had no issues there whatsoever with cell service or pick-pockets.

+1 with the plan.

And the Israeli cell service is first rate. Even in the big multi-level shopping malls.

Some of the big malls have entries with metal detectors.

Hopefully the shoddy jewelry doesn't embarrass with warning beeps on sashaying through the detectors.

YMMV ... snortle.

ps - texting is cheapest form to communicate ...

Thanks, all. She signed up for AT&T's international plan for $40/month.
