My mini lathe is a Taiwanese unit sold in various colors under various banners. I got mine from Grizzly. A couple of days ago it died on me in the middle of a job. I dug out my paperwork and (surprise, surprise) the one year warranty expired 3 days previously.

Seeing as it was (barely) out of warranty, I assumed Grizzly would charge me full price for a new board, which lists for $135-ish. I emailed their Customer Service department asking if they could send me a schematic so I could troubleshoot it, or perhaps give me a break on the price of a new one.

MUCH to my surprise, one of their Tech Department guys called me this morning, verified the manufacture date and serial number and is sending out a new board free of charge. They didn't have to do that and I wouldn't have blamed them if they hadn't. You have to draw the line on warranty service somewhere and it WAS out of warranty.

When I'm in the market for related tools and accessories, they'll be my first stop.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Good to hear that was nice of them. If I EVER get my shop built I'll be in need of a decent floor standing drill press, I just checked and Grizzly offers a nice selection of them so I'll likely just order one from them.

I have several Grizzly machines in my woodworking shop: bandsaw, jointer, planer along with some smaller hand tools. Any issues I’ve had with them over the years have always been handled efficiently and very fairly. They get my recommendation.

That's good they did it n their own.

Not on the same level but I had to call Keurig one month after warranty for what turned out to be a known issue. They were offering me a "deal" on a new one.

I had to lay out how I saw things: "Let me get this straight. You have a known issue and if only my machine had crapped out sooner because of it, you would have sent me a new one but because it went one month past the warranty before crapping out, I'm screwed?"

They sent me a new one for free.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
