Can you identify this vehicle? Burglary attempt.
Two people tried to break into the home across the street from me tonight. The youngest son was home alone taking a shower and when they made entry, they ran when they figured out someone was home. The local police know I have cameras on my house and came to,see what I may have captured on my system. I was able to capture them pulling up, parking in their driveway, trying to get in the front door, and then fleeing. I am hoping to figure out what make and model vehicle they were driving. Based on the rear side window, so far it looks to be a Jeep or Mercedes. I figure someone here may figure it out. Here are pictures of the vehicle. I can’t wait to upgrade to an IP camera system to have much better quality. I am glad they did not pick my house. Local police would be doing a completely different investigation right now.

That is a 2007-2013 Toyota Highlander.
Look to be the 19” 5 spoke wheels that come on the limited model.
Also has fog lights.

The rear window lines give it away.

At first I was thinking older mode Toyota Highlander. The grill does look like a Jeep though.

Boom. 14 minutes.

Looks good to me.

In the second to the last photo, you can even make out the exaggerated body line curving around the rear wheel well.

Yes, a 2010 Toyota Highlander definitely looks close to it.

My first thought is a Toyota Highlander.
Then looking models up it appears maybe a 2009 year model.

That this sample in this link.

It’s nice you helped out providing photos from your cameras.

You would be surprised the number of people that will not show there camera footage to help out.

While slamming the door shut saying yea get a warrant.

Another great thing is that after the suspects parked in the driveway, you see the passenger get out, take a big puff off of a cigarette, and then throw it in the yard. The clarity of the cigarette in the dark almost looked like an image from a thermal camera. The police were able to find the cigarette after watching the video and will submit for DNA.

Lucky they ran off instead of hurting the kid at home. Hope the LEOs catch the miscreants.

That is not a very common car. Hopefully they will be able to reduce the number of potential thieves to a small group.

When you upgrade to IP cameras, there will be a shock when you see the quality improvement.

Yeah I just have not upgraded because I plan to move to a new custom built home on 5 acres within a few years and will do the upgrade then to the best available. I have upgraded my current cameras to the best available over RG-6; 1MP. Sadly, I have captured 4-5 crimes on my current cameras and live in a nice area.

Here is a picture of one suspect throwing his cigarette, which was collected as evidence. It is blurry and pixelated as I have digitally zoomed in to take a capture.

Many of the home burglaries around here are done in stolen cars. Might want to see if there is a Toyota Highlander on the hot list.

Good job. The cops will track down the car and crooks, thanks to your footage.

I would guess the Highlander is stolen.

they picked that house for a reason...there are plenty of other houses on the street, and night time is not the usual time to find houses empty....someone thought the homeowners were gone for a reason and didnt expect the kid to be there....

Yeah pretty strange as most burglaries are during the day. A few years ago the house next to me was burglarized and it was at 6:30pm with a car in the driveway and a rottweiler in the backyard. They parked in the driveway, jumped the fence with the dog, kicked in the backdoor, and took everything out the garage door. It was all captured on my camera system. Figured for sure it was someone who knew them and knew they were out of town. Turns out that was not the case. The crooks got caught a few months later breaking into a home with an elderly lady in it who called the cops and they got arrested. They fessed up to my neighbor's burglary.

Shit! I had to laugh at how fast it took. I shouldn't be surprised at this point with the membership here. Great job.

But does it have posi-traction?

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
