The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view

We have had a Netflix account since they started under my wife's email account and a unique password.

She was watching it yesterday and today it wouldn’t open. It required her to log back in and when she tried to, it threw an "email not recognized" error. Looked up the account by the CC number and the email associated with the account has the same first few characters of her email but a different domain. The new domain is chimuelo dot net.

Checked the CC which is only used for reoccurring online charges and there are no new charges on it. I don't think you can access the full CC info from inside the Netflix account, only change it, but NFCU is still going to reissue a new card number.

My wife has been on hold in the Netflix CS waiting line for over an hour already. I’m not sure if it is because Netflix has a widespread issue or if its just normal shitty service.

Anyone else having this issue with Netflix?

Not yet, fingers crossed. I only load funds using NF pre-paid gift cards using cash. Not sure if that's convenient for you - I buy them at the supermarket.

Nope. Just logged-in via web browser to double-check. No problem.

the only issue I had was my own fault.

I logged in from a hotel room TV and didn't log out. Someone else used the account and changed a few things like the profiles, but once I changed the password, that was that.

Nothing happened like not being able to log in or any credit card problems.

Probably a good time for your wife to change all her passwords.

Netflix app on TV wouldn't open yesterday evening. Today it's OK. First time it wouldn't open in ages.

Maybe cancel the CC?

Advice for all -- If you don't have 2FA on a web connected account of value (typically targeted assets) it's only a matter of time. If you have less than 12 char in a PW and no 2FA, it's a matter of much less time. If you don't have 2FA on a bank or investment account, you're flat out irresponsible.

2FA = Two-factor authentication. Think text messaging codes, or better IMO, a mobile authentication app.

Canceled when it was still under $10 a month. Not enough new, interesting material to justify it. Thinking of dropping prime too for same reasons. Especially since 2 day shipping hasn't been 2 days in a while.

We got hacked last summer and it was a gigantic pain because they changed the email address and password.
We were on vacation and they would not do anything over the phone without me giving them the entire credit card number, expiration date, and security code.

I have a Credit card that only gets used for recurring payments from known vendors like Netflix. I don’t carry that card it just sits in the safe at home.

I had to freeze that account and create a completely new account (we were on a 3 week roadtrip) for that month.
Once I got home I was able to resolve the old account and cancelled the one I had to create while we were gone.

What a Pain. Finally gave up on the phone after finding a chat option. After the first rep said the account was flagged for suspicious activity (like us trying repeatedly log in) and he couldn’t do anything.
Next chat also noted the flagged status but sent a link were we could change the email in the account. Unfortunately, they missed the pre chat questions were we selected no, i cannot access my account, so the link to the Netflix log in page did not help much.
Finally the next chat attempt got someone competent. They verified the account through the CC number, logged all devices out, resent the account email address to the old one, and send a code to verify a password reset. Got back into the account and everything is working.

This would be pretty pointless. The Netflix password, like all our passwords for these type of online services, was a unique password not used anywhere else. It is a complex level password that is not going to be guessed.
I'm guessing that this came from one of Netfilx's previous data breaches.

Lots of really slick scammers out there, so people should beware of ANYONE who calls and claims to be from one of 5hose institutions (e.g. bank, brokerage, credit card, IRS, etc). NEVER read back to them any CODE sent you.

The typical scenario is they say your account has suspicious or fraudulent activity and they are going to cancel your card or remove the fraudulent activity. Then they say they are sending you a code to your phone or email, and need you to read it back to them to prove who you are. THIS IS YOUR 2FA and they will use it to log into your account. They then freely drain that account. The institution will not refund you your losses because you gave away access.
