I'm putting this in The Lounge instead of The Lair as time is of the essence. I had no idea this movie was out if it wasn't for a Facebook ad on my phone. It appears to only be out for a week in IMAX theaters, usually during the day as new releases are getting the evening time slots in the IMAX theaters. It's rated G so we took the whole family, who have all been to one or two air shows already. I've seen the Blue Angels at least four times, the most recent was last year in Scott Air Force Base in IL.

Go out and see this movie, its Top Gun Maverick level cinematography.

So I grew up near the Naval Academy and I have seen the Blue Angels many times. They are always amazing. I have seen movies about the Blue Angels and they are amazing.

All that said we have an Oculus Quest VR headset and I watched a 360 degree VR cockpit video of the Blue Angels and they are……….GOD DAMN LUNATICS!!!!! Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick you really don’t get a sense for how close they get to each other and the high speed precision of it all like you do when you are basically sitting on the pilots lap so to speak. I mean amazing really doesn’t cut it anymore as the correct adjective. Something between suicidal and superhuman comes to mind. Smile

It'll be on Prime eventually, but just like Maverick, this is something you need to experience with a screen as big as a house with speakers to boot.

It did a good job covering the support staff and the training/rotation process which previous documentaries I've seen never really did.

Oddly, the trailers it was paired with were Beetlejuice and Twisters and then two animated Dreamworks or whatever movies. Beetlejuice and Twisters haven't been rated yet I don't think, that's why they could do that. They both scared the crap out of our kids 6, 9 and 11, who don't go to movies and watch TV much because we are "those parents." The kids got over it though.

Those are the current Promos we went and saw Ghostbuster last week and had the same previews.
I am looking forward to Beetlejuice.

Many years ago while in Imperial County, CA the Blue Angels training ground, we would pull up to the fence at the Air Base runway and watch planes of all types take off. All were in line waiting their turn to taxi and take off. Except the Blue Angels. They went around the long line of stacked planes and pulled right to the front and blasted into the sky. Amazing sight.

Also, while still living out there, was watching TV and the crawler came on saying a Blue Angel jet crashed. Hum..looked out the back house door and yep there was a big smoke plume in the distance down towards the Air Base. IIRC the pilot ejected.

Nerves of steel they have.

Saw it this afternoon and it was great! Very very enjoyable and needs to be seen on the big screen.

My only gripe is not with the film itself. Prior to this I have only been to the IMAX theater at the Museum Center in Cincinnati.
It’s probably 30+ years old and it’s a massive screen that is a dome.
My local IMAX did not really seem any different than the picture and sound we just saw Ghostbusters on that was not an IMAX.
So kind of pissed I paid $20 instead of $9.

So what do they mean by IMAX since this was hit in IMAX.

Ooh that looks good I’ll need to find a imax theater. I live close enough to NAS Pensacola they have flown over my house a few times. Neighbor works on base and has some great photos taken on lunch hour during practices. If you check the naval aviation museum website and you will be in Pensacola, you can see what days they practice and also the days they have autograph signings after practice.

Thanks for the heads up. It's playing here (IA/IL Quad Cities) less than a week. We're going on Weds, the final day, in Imax 2D.

My same thoughts on the new "IMAX" vs what I was used to growing up going to the one at St Louis Science Center. I think the surround screening would distort things too much, I'd gave to research the difference between 90s IMAX and today, but the Science Center one you could watch the film roll on the plate and projector and they were huge. The cameras were huge, they were featured in Storm Chasers. I think now it just means "big ass screen and speakers."

Also, for Pensacola people orothers in the know, when do the Blue Angels decide to demo Fat Albert? Not all shows I've been to had him demo. I luckily got to see it use RATO bottles once before they ran out.

Not all IMAX screens are created equal. Your local IMAX probably still uses a Xenon bulb projector instead of the Laser projector that others have or are upgrading to.

I have tickets for tomorrow.

I've seen the Blue Angels perform in person lots of times from the time I was a youngster until a few yearsa ago. I even spent some time in the Officer's Club with them way back when I was flying.

Saw a movie of them in the IMAX theatre at Pensacola NAS/National Museum of Naval Aviation before as well, but this movie is not that one.

Looking forward to it!

Probably one of the best things about living in Maryland. I’m 20 minutes from downtown Annapolis if traffic is heavy and I get to see them fly at least twice a year.

Showtime at USNA is 1400 tomorrow and I’ll be on the roof of one of my favorite parking garages for the event.
