Yeah, I'm not sure why the M17's extra 0.8" of barrel/slide length would justify the hassle of keeping track of two different slides/barrels/recoil springs/etc.

But Big Army gonna Big Army.

What a waste of taxpayer money.

Oh, for sure, and we're just talking pistols here and not even getting into all the other stuff. I've seen pictures of stacks of M16A1's on a conveyor belt feeding into the machine, and much more. Heartbreaking stuff, and an incredible waste of money. Then again, this is the same government that has been dumping all kinds of tanks and armored stuff in the ocean after we withdraw from a conflict rather than bring it back state side and mothball it going back to at least WWII.

I see. That is enlightening, but begs the question: Creole, or Cajun?

The M-18 proposed was to accommodate Law Enforcement and concealed carry requirements, and aircrews, versus the full size the Army wanted for it's soldiers, but it looks like the other services preferred the M-18. If they are going to give everybody a pistol, different sizes can matter. Air Force bought 125,000 M-18's, Marines bought a bunch of M18's, the Navy bought 60,000 M-18's, I guess the Army decided bigger is better.

M17 totally won me over. I wanted an M18 but had no idea when they'd come out. So I got the M17. Next day the M18 is for sale, front page of Sig.

But the M17 really grew on me. I wanted to hate it and I don't at all. Shoots really well.

Doubt I'll ever replace my g19, but I would like to get an M18 also. Comparisons sake and all.

You should watch a conveyor with stripped P229 frames going into a foundry.......

5,000 of them.
